NXT Recap (6/5): Takeover Fallout, Keith Lee Takes On Kona Reeves, Mia Yim versus Bianca Belair

This edition of NXT was pre-taped in front of Takeover XXV from the Webster Bank arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

A highlight package of all the action from this past weekend's Takeover is played. Quick recap: Matt Riddle defeated Roderick Strong in a banger of an opener, Street Profits became the new tag champions in a fatal-four way ladder bout, Velveteen Dream successfully defended the North American title against Tyler Breeze, Shayna Baszler is still NXT women's champion, and Adam Cole bested Johnny Gargano to become the new NXT champion.

Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Beth Phoenix welcome us to another edition of NXT. Keith Lee makes his way to the ring for our opening contest. His opponent...Kona Reeves.

Keith Lee versus Kona Reeves

Tie-up. Reeves with a wristlock. Lee powers out with ease and tosses Reeves to the mat. He has Reeves's wrist now. Reeves jumps to the outside but Lee maintains the hold and brings him back into the ring. Pop-up from Lee and Reeves says he hurt his knee. Lee doesn't buy it...the referee separates them...Reeves takes advantage and headbutts Lee. He drops elbows on Lee's head and neck. He ties Lee up in the ropes...running boot from Reeves. Cover...Lee is out at one. Headlock from Reeves. Lee begins to break the hold...Reeves makes him pay with a big forearm that drops Lee. Reeves with right hands...Lee gets to his feet and hulks up. Big left hands from Lee, followed by a diving crossbody.

Reeves cranks Lee's shoulder over the ropes...uranagi for a nearfall. Lee looks pissed. Huge flurry of strikes, followed by a running shoulder block. Samoan drop jackhammer. Reeves is out.

Keith Lee wins by pinfall

Commentary takes us to footage of Io Shirai and Shayna Baszler's title match. Shirai put up a good effort, but got caught in Baszler's rear-naked choke that led to her tapping out. Post-match, Shirai attacked Baszler with a kendo-stick, and then nailed her with the moonsault. Backstage, Shirai would say she's not done with Baszler.

Candice LeRae and Io Shirai versus Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir is announced for next week. The Mia Yim versus Bianca Belair rubber match is still to come later tonight. Coming up next...exclusive footage from the tag team ladder match from Takeover that saw the Street Profits become the new tag tea champion.

Highlights of the ladder match is shown narrated by Ranallo. After a wild opening, the Forgotten Sons muscle, Jaxson Ryker, interfered to try and give his team the edge. The lot would team up on Ryker eliminating him from the match. In the end...Montez Ford jumped on the ladder to knock off Wesley Blake and capture the tag titles. Angelo Dawkins and Ford were interviewed immediately after, and said that due to hard work and dedication they achieved their dream. They have a fun bit with the WWE exclusive camera man since he's wearing a Matt Riddle shirt.

Cut to highlights of the North Amercian championship bout between Tyler Breeze and Velveteen Dream. A solid back and forth affair that saw Dream win after a momentary distraction. Breeze was interviewed immediately after backstage. Breeze says that the match could have gone either way, but that he's gained respect for the Dream. He also says that he's back in NXT full-time.

Main event time. Mia Yim is out first, followed by Bianca Belair. Here we go.

Tie-up. Belair shoves Yim into the corner. Belair with a slam but Yim fires back with one of her own. Quick roll-up from Yim...kickout. Multiple arm-drags from Yim. Belair dodges the last one, then stomps on Yim's hand. Yim fires right back with a dropkick. Nice sequence of running the ropes by both women...misdirection by Belair...she nails Yim with a lariat. Abdominal stretch applied by Belair. Yim hip-tosses her to escape but Belair slows Yim down with a gutbuster. Bow-and-arrow submission from Belair. Yim manages to shift her weight and get a pinfall attempt...Belair is out at two. Belair back on the attack...bonzai drop. Another one. A third.

Yim catches Belair in an armbar...she doesn't have it fully locked in....Belair rolls her up. Yim kicks out. Guillotine from Yim....Belair drops her on her back but Yim sends Belair to the outside from the ground. They fight at ringside. Belair goes for the Glam-slam...Yim rolls through sending Belair into the steel steps. Back in the ring...Yim ties up Belair in the tarantula, then hits a code-blue for a nearfall. Yim builds up momentum...Belair pulls her back and hits a back suplex. Powerbomb attempt from Belair...Yim locks on the Guillotine again! Belair escapes...spin kick from Yim. She charges Belair in the corner...Belair gets the elbow up...Yim to the middle-rope...codebreaker. Got her!

Flashback to last week's bout between KUSHIDA and Drew Gulak. KUSHIDA picked up the win with a roll-up. Gulak was interviewed, where he taunts KUSHIDA for being the so-called submission specialist and winning with a roll-up. He challenges KUSHIDA to a submission matchup. KUSHIDA accepted via social media. Also announced for next week...Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch versus Undisputed Era (Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong.)

Footage of the epic Takeover XXV rematch between Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano for the NXT championship. Cole...with zero help from the Undisputed Era...would become the new champion after hitting the Last Shot.
