According to the Associated Press, the community of Ellerbe, North Carolina, is honoring the late WWE Hall of Famer Andre the Giant with a roadside marker near his former home. The marker is located in Richmond County at the intersection of NC Highway 72 and Old NC Highway 220. Andre lived on a ranch just outside this small community, which has a population of approximately 1,000 residents.
The report states that he became a “critical part” of the community, notably opposing plans for a nearby low-level radioactive landfill. He actively participated in the fight against it by filming TV and radio advertisements. A pair of Andre's cowboy boots is now on display at a local museum. He purchased the ranch while wrestling throughout the Southern U.S., and it is situated about 60 miles east of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Recently, Andre's iconic match with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan from WrestleMania III was recognized as this year's Immortal Moment at the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, which took place during WrestleMania 42 weekend. Andre was the inaugural inductee into the Hall of Fame following his passing in 1993.
Below is what the marker will say:
“Andre The Giant. 1946-1993. Actor and professional wrestler. Was born Andre Roussimoff. Known for his role in The Princess Bride in 1987. Lived nearby.”
