Report: WWE & NJPW Have Been Discussing a Possible Partnership

-- In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) have been engaged in discussions about a potential partnership in which WWE would become the Japanese promotion's exclusive North American partner. Talks have apparently dated back to March but it's unclear whether they are ongoing or the status of where things stand. NJPW has normally aligned with ROH as their American partner but during the COVID pandemic, they have also loosely worked with AEW and IMPACT.

-- New WWE President Nick Khan is said to be spearheading the discussions and is bringing a new mentality to WWE by changing the idea that it's WWE vs. everyone else and that strategic partnerships provide more benefit in the long run. Meltzer also wrote that if WWE aligns with NJPW, it would keep them away from working with any other companies. If this agreement comes to fruition, it would see WWE sending talent, including many top stars, to work in New Japan.
