Report: WWE No Longer Branding Next Week's NXT-TNA Special As "Invasion" Amid Backlash

Both WWE and TNA have pulled all references of "Invasion" as it relates to next week's special event on CW.

The WrestleVotes account reported earlier today that the previously referred to NXT vs. TNA "Invasion" themed event next week will now be known as "Showdown" though neither company has publicly acknowledged the new name (NXT is tonight so that could change) and simply referring to the show as a "special event."

The reason for the abrupt and last minute change is believed to be backlash from fans in Israel due to the date of the special (October 7) coinciding with the second anniversary of the Hamas attacks in the southern part of the country that triggered the current war in Gaza. There was also some backlash to the logo that WWE chose to promote the event which included a red letter V as it was said to resemble the downward facing red triangle used as a Hamas symbol.

The similarities are surely coincidental as WWE used the same name and logo way back in 2001 during the WWE vs. WCW invasion storyline.
