WWE moved forward with a title change on Friday's Smackdown that will have major ramifications for WrestleMania 42 next month as Cody Rhodes regained his WWE Title from Drew McIntyre.
Rhodes will now face Randy Orton for the title but the company originally had a different direction in mind according to PWInsider Elite.
According to their report, the initial storyline for Rhodes and Drew McIntyre would have seen them in a match at WrestleMania which would have been in a Hell in a Cell.
Instead, Rhodes now faces Orton while McIntyre likely is going to be drawn against Jacob Fatu. Dave Meltzer recently reported that WWE is at this time, planning to keep Rhodes-Orton a singles match for those who speculated that McIntyre may yet still be added to it.
