Tony Khan Finally Breaks Silence On Controversial Spiked Bat Spot With AEW World Champion Jon Moxley

AEW President Tony Khan is standing firmly behind one of the company’s most talked-about moments of the year — Jon Moxley’s infamous spike bat segment.

The Death Riders leader got a spiked bat stuck in his back during a Street Fight world title defense against Adam Copeland back in March. While several fans enjoyed the spot, others criticized it for being too barbaric. Khan gave his thoughts during a recent interview with The Way Of The Blade.

"When Mox had the spike bat in his back, that was a great wrestling moment. It was memorable, it helped drive box office for us, it was highest rated episode of the year. It went viral. It’s one of the most watched videos of the year. It’s probably the most watched video of the year in AEW. It’s a fantastic moment. It made new fans and created interest. It was on TMZ. There are people who weren’t watching AEW that saw it. It brought outside fans in and created casual interest."

Moxley ended up successfully defending the title against Copeland. He's held the championship since taking it from Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream last year.
