Update On Shinjiro Otani's Status, Set To Undergo Surgery Today

As previously reported, Shinjiro Otani took on Takashi Sugiura in a Singles Matchup at a recent ZERO-ONE Pro Wrestling Event in Tokyo, Japan and Shinjiro suffered what is believed to be a cervical spine injury during the opening moments of the matchup, when he was on the receiving end of a German suplex into the turnbuckles. Shinjiro was able to communicate with the referees in the ringside area as well as the medical personnel, but he was unable to move his extremities.

An update was recently provided by ZERO-ONE Pro Wrestling that Otani was taken to the I.C.U and he is set to undergo surgery later today, April 13th for a cervical spinal cord injury. Dr. Shunji Asamoto, who works at the Makita General Hospital and who is set to perform the surgery on Shinjiro Otani, had a conversation with Tokyo Sports on the surgery and how it would be better if he had the surgery done as soon as possible.

Dr. Asamoto also revealed the reason he believes Manabu Nakanishi and Tomoaki Honma, who suffered the same injury Otani did, were able to return healthy from the injury is due to them getting the surgery at the right time.
