Venue That Hosted WrestleMania IV And V Demolished Wednesday

Atlantic City’s Trump Plaza, which was the venue where WWE's WrestleMania IV and WWE's WrestleMania V took place, was demolished on Wednesday after the building had been closed since 2014. Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey opened in 1984.

WWE Hall of Famer and former President of the United States Donald Trump had not been associated with the building since 2009. Despite WWE's WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V being held in the legendary and historic Atlantic City Convention Hall, Trump Plaza was given the rights to host the events since Donald Trump rented out the venue as part of the casino to hold events such as wrestling and boxing.

Around 9AM Wednesday morning, a series of loud and powerful explosions caused Trump Plaza to collapse for less than 20 seconds.

Bernie Dillon, the events manager for the casino at Trump Plaza from 1984 to 1991, spoke with WKYC on how they put Trump Plaza and the city of Atlantic City on the map for the whole world. He also talked about how Hulk Hogan, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards performed in the legendary venue.

Dillon said, “The way we put Trump Plaza and the city of Atlantic City on the map for the whole world was really incredible.” “Everyone from Hulk Hogan to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it was the whole gamut of personalities. One night before a Tyson fight I stopped dead in my tracks and looked about four rows in as the place was filling up, and there were two guys leaning in close and having a private conversation: Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty. It was like that a lot: You had Madonna and Sean Penn walking in, Barbra Streisand and Don Johnson, Muhammad Ali would be there, Oprah sitting with Donald ringside/ It was a special time. I’m sorry to see it go.”

The main event of WrestleMania IV saw WWE Hall of Famers Randy Savage and Ted DiBiase face each other in a tournament final for the vacant WWE Championship, which was won by Randy Savage, while the main event of WrestleMania V saw WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan defeat Randy Savage for the WWE Championship with Miss Elizabeth in a neutral corner.

WWE's WrestleMania IV and V took place inside Trump Plaza’s Boardwalk Hall, which is at the venue and actually still standing.
