A shocking announcement was recently made by NJPW that Will Ospreay suffered a neck injury on May 4th and is set to return to the U.K. for treatment and to rehab his injury, which is why Will Ospreay has no choice but to vacate the IWGP Heavyweight Title.
Ospreay suffered the injury during his win over Shingo Takagi at NJPW’s Wrestling Dontaku Day 2 Event on May 4th in Fukuoka, Japan. He won the title from Kota Ibushi back on April 4 at the Sakura Genesis 2021 Event, making him the second person to become the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
There is no word yet on how long Will Ospreay will be out of action, which is why no other choice was given to him but to vacate the championship. According to NJPW, updates and announcements on the IWGP World Heavyweight Title status will be made available at a later date.
