William Regal Claims Credit For Former NXT Character

During the latest recording of the Gentleman Villain podcast, former WWE NXT General Manager and current All Elite Wrestling talent William Regal took credit for kickstarting the career of Monday Night Raw Superstar Bayley. Check out the highlights below.

On the motivation behind creating the Bayley character:

“I will claim that that was my idea, because it was. When I was commentating on the original NXT, when it was the Game Show, AJ Lee was on there and she was fantastic on there and my niece used to ask me ‘can you get me some t-shirts of AJ Lee?'”

On WWE's need for a "marketable" female character at that time:

“She was very young and there were [no shirts]. So I’m like why doesn’t this company have a marketable character for young girls? They’ve got everything for teenage girls and older ladies but nothing for little girls.”

As a member of the NXT roster, Bayley claimed the 2015 NXT Year-End award for the Female Competitor of the Year. She is also a former NXT Women's Champion.
