WWE is scheduled to host WrestleMania 42 on Saturday, April 19th, and Sunday, April 20th, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is common practice for establishments that pay licensing fees to show premium live events, and during WrestleMania week, this often includes talent hosting watch-alongs.
However, Fightful Select reports that this may not be the case in Las Vegas this year. The distributor of WrestleMania 42 broadcasts has informed several venues in Las Vegas that they will not be able to show the event, even if they pay the licensing fee. It was noted that this new policy applies to businesses located within 50 miles of the event, aiming to boost ticket sales. Reportedly, ticket sales for WrestleMania 42 are currently behind last year's figures, although Fightful Select stated that it is unclear if this is a contributing factor to the decision.
The issue is affecting various wrestling talents who have already agreed to deals to host WrestleMania watch parties. One source familiar with the situation expressed concern that this policy undermines the purpose of bringing WrestleMania to Las Vegas, which is to enhance the city’s tourism industry.
Another source connected to a venue mentioned that while some smaller establishments might attempt to circumvent the rule in Las Vegas, doing so could negatively impact their ability to broadcast UFC events, which are quite lucrative. WWE has yet to respond to requests for comment from Fightful regarding this matter.
