The August 13th, 2019 edition of WWE SmackDown Live took place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON.
Recap of the cruiserweight title matchup from this past Sunday's SummerSlam. Oney Lorcan put up a valiant effort, but it wasn't enough to defeat champion Drew Gulak, who retained after hitting his finishing torture rack neckbreaker.
205 song intro.
Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness, and Aiden English welcome us to another edition of 205 Live. They announce that General Manager reviewed the ending of Lorcan and Gulak's SummerSlam bout, and has decided to issue a rematch. Lorcan battles Gulak for the cruiserweight championship in the main event.
Jack Gallagher is out for our opening action of the evening. Flashback to last week's 205 Live, and Gallagher's performance in the six-pack challenge that was eventually won by Lorcan. Gallagher will be facing Akira Tozawa, who is accompanied to the ring by Brian Kendrick. Tozawa and Gallagher shake hands, and this one is underway.

Tie-up. Both men down on the mat, Tozawa reverses the lockup and puts Gallagher in another submission. Both men are back up on their feet. Gallagher twists the left ankle of Tozawa. He then goes for Tozawa's hand once he is down. Now, Tozawa has Gallagher in the octopus. He breaks the hold and throws a forearm at Gallagher.
Gallagher wastes no time coming back from the hit and lifts Tozawa right out of the ring with his legs. Tozawa just beats the ref's count. Back in the ring, the referee checks in on Tozawa to make sure that he is still okay enough to compete. Strike attempt from Tozawa...Gallagher reverses it by doing another takedown. While he is down on the mat, Gallagher knees him in the back. Tozawa gets back up and climbs up the top rope and jumps off, Gallagher is able to move out of the way in time. Gallagher puts Tozawa in another submission and he is able to break out of it. A missile dropkick proceeds from Tozawa onto Gallagher...he goes for the cover...two count.
Tozawa follows it up with a basement dropkick for a nearfall. Gallagher lifts up Tozawa for a straighten submission and slams Tozawa into the ring turnbuckle.Tozawa reverses and climbs to the top rope and lands a diving senton on to Gallagher. He goes for the pin and wins the match.

On replay...it looks as if Gallagher got his foot on the bottom rope but Kendrick may have knocked it off out of excitement. No indication on whether it was intentional, by accident, or a botch. Commentary does talk about the spot. They shift gears and hype the main event.
Backstage Oney Lorcan cuts a promo. He says he brought the fight to Drew Gulak at SummerSlam and that he should be cruiserweight champion, but that Gulak took the easy road by hitting a cheap shot in the throat. He promises to walk out of Toronto with the title tonight.

Humberto Carrillo is out for our next bout of the evening. He'll be teaming with Lince Dorado and Kalisto. Earlier in the day, someone attacked Gran Metalik and Carrillo was inserted into his spot for the upcoming six-man tag. Footage of the incident is shown, with Carrillo and Dorado still having trust issues following their matchup from last week. They'll be facing the Singh Brothers and Ariya Daivari.
Lucha House Party/Humberto Carrillo versus Singh Brothers/Ariya Daivari
Daivari and Carrillo start. Daivari lands the first strike. Carrillo gets the crowd cheering with his normal display of lucha offense. Sunil tags in. Carrillo goes to his corner to tag in Dorado. Dorado with a strong chest chop on Sunil. Now comes Kalisto. Tandem offense from the Lucha House Party. Carrillo tries to join in on the fun, but the referee instructs him to get back on the apron since he isn't the legal man. Sunil tags in Daivari. Kalisto goes to the top rope and Samir Singh runs over to push him off. With him down and hurt, Daivari goes for a back breaker on Kalisto. Daivari tags in Samir to keep the momentum going. Samir goes for a submission on Kalisto.
Kalisto tags in Carrillo. Carrillo hits a dropkick on Sunil. Pin attempt that is broken up by Daivari. Both Carrillo and Dorado clear all the contenders outside of the ring with double aerials. Daivari gets upset and decides to the leave the match. Carrillo and Samir are the only two in the ring. Carrillo is about to jump off the top rope and Dorado tags him as he is doing his signature move. Dorado follows and lands a shooting star press onto Samir...that'll do it.

Promo from the champ. Gulak says that when he became champion he asked for a worthy challenger. Someone new. Instead..."he's haunted by his past" with the likes of Tony Nese, Isaiah Scott, and Oney Lorcan. "The only constant in this world is change...and I am the law."
Advertisement for the WWE King of the Ring tournament. Action begins this week on Raw.
Backstage Tony Nese says he's had some time to reflect since losing his spot to go to SummerSlam. He plans on doing whatever he can to win the cruiserweight championship, but that he needs to reset in order to get there.
Main even time. The challenger Oney Lorcan is out first, with the champion Drew Gulak coming out second. Here we go.
Oney Lorcan versus Drew Gulak for the cruiserweight championship
Lorcan goes right for Gulak with a strong forearm. He forces Gulak up into the corner but the he referee separates the two so Gulak can reset. Gulak rolls out of the ring. Lorcan goes for the half-and-half...he hits it! Gulak escapes and slides outside again. Lorcan pursues him this time, nailing him with an attack from the top ropes to the outside. Gulak catches Lorcan, slamming him into the barricade. Lorcan barely beats the count as the action returns back inside.
Gulak goes for a suplex once Lorcan comes back in the ring. Gulak follows it up with headlock submission. Lorcan is able to get out of it with the help of the audience's claps. Gulak goes for a cover and Lorcan kicks out at 2. Gulak puts his boot on top of Lorcan's face, then gets out of the ring to put a submission on Lorcan. Gulak breaks the hold and goes back in the ring to put Lorcan in another arm submission. Gulak goes to the middle rope...lariat.
"Fight forever" chants from the crowd. Gulak rolls over and puts Lorcan in another headlock. Lorcan, slow to his feet, tries to break the hold with a few hits to the abdomen. Lorcan follows it up with an uppercut and then a clothesline for a nearfall. Lorcan goes for three back hits on to Gulak and Gulak reverse it. Goes for the cover...two count.
A tailspin clothesline comes next from Gulak. He lifts up Lorcan and sits him up on the top rope. Gulak climbs up to the top rope and throws a few rights to keep Lorcan sitting on the rope. Lorcan hits back, which pushes Gulak on to the top rope. Lorcan then lifts up Gulak for a half-and-half and slams him hard right down on the mat. He goes for the cover and Gulak surprisingly, kicks out at 2 after that impact. Gulak goes outside of the ring and Lorcan follows him. Gulak slams Lorcan's head on the commentary table. Back into the ring....Lorcan fires back with a few chest chops. With Gulak down, Lorcan throws a few back of the head shots on him. Gulak is able to put Lorcan in the Gulock and Lorcan slowly starts to fade. He passes out. It's over.
Drew Gulak wins due to referee stoppage. He retains the title.
Highlights of the bout are shown. Both men are bruised and battered after that intense affair.
