WWE Announces Two Huge Title Matches For Next Week’s Episode Of SmackDown

Two big titles matches have been announced by WWE for next week's episode of SmackDown. First, it was announced that we will see WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews defend his championship against Kevin Owens, with Commander Azeez banned from ringside. A Non-Title Match took place during SmackDown last night between Apollo Crews and Kevin Owens, which saw Kevin Owens dominate until Commander Azeez attacked Owens from behind with the Nigerian Nail that resulted in the match ending in a DQ. We would then see Kevin Owens left at ringside choking and gasping for air.

Later in the broadcast, WWE official Adam Pearce caught up with Owens in the trainer’s room, where he was clearly still suffering from the Nigerian Nail. Owens would then ask Adam Pearce for a title shot on next week’s show, which Pearce agreed to and even said that Azeez will be banned from ringside.

We will also see SmackDown Tag Team Champions Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik Mysterio defend their SmackDown Tag Team titles against The Usos on next week's show. The opening match of last night's WWE SmackDown episode saw Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso team up for the first time since March 2020 when the beat The Street Profits. Later in the show, Jimmy Uso approached WWE official Adam Pearce and told him The Usos will face the winner of last night’s main event, which Pearce agreed to. Rey and his son Dominik Mysterio successfully retained their titles against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode in the show's main event, which was a rematch from the WrestleMania Backlash Event.

The storyline going into next week’s SmackDown Tag Team Title Match between The Usos and Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio sees Jey Uso conflicted about teaming up with his brother Jimmy Uso as SmackDown last night featured a number of backstage segments where WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns tried to make Jey Uso feel guilty about reuniting with his brother, while Jimmy Uso was excited about the show next week. Jey Uso was also worried about leaving the WWE Universal Champion out.
