WWE Bringing Men's & Women's WarGames Matches to Survivor Series

-- Triple H recently spoke to The Ringer and revealed that WWE will bringing the WarGames concept to this year's Survivor Series. He noted that there will be both a men's and women's match and that the competitors will be determined more by storylines rather than the Raw vs. Smackdown theme that has dominated Survivor Series over the last several years.

-- The original concept of WarGames features two rings and a double steel cage encased in a roof with staggered entrances leading into "The Match Beyond" that could only end in submission. It was originally created by Dusty Rhodes in 1987, debuting in July of that year for Jim Crockett Promotions and went onto be used frequently by WCW until its purchase by WWE. Triple H has long been a fan of this type of match and he brought a similar variation of it to NXT about 5 years ago and now that he is in control of all the brands, he's bringing it to the main roster at Survivor Series. In the NXT version, there was no top to the cages and pinfalls were also allowed.

“We’ll have a men’s WarGames match and a women’s WarGames match. The tradition of the Survivor Series has ebbed and flowed and changed slightly over time, but this will be similar to that. This will not be Raw versus SmackDown. It will be much more story-line driven. I still look at it as a traditional component to Survivor Series in there because it’s large teams of people competing. We just upped the ante a little bit with WarGames and made it evolve.”
