WWE The Bump Recap: Hulk Hogan, Daniel Bryan, And Goldberg Hype The Royal Rumble

Good evening wrestling fans, and welcome to the WWE The Bump Royal Rumble Special Recap. The co-hosts of todays show are Matt Camp, Evan T. Mack, and Ryan Pappolla, alongside the host, Kayla Braxton. Today’s guest are three of the biggest superstars in WWE history, Daniel Bryan, Goldberg, and “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan! Now that we’re all caught up on what’s going down, let’s take a look at The Bump.

The Bump crew kicks off the special show with a few predictions for tonight’s Royal Rumble event, and they talk about what they hope to see go down tonight. Kayla takes us back to last nights WWE Backstage on FS1, and tell us that Randy Orton will kick off the Royal Rumble with Edge. Kayla then brings on the first guest, Daniel Bryan.

Daniel Bryan

Daniel kicks off the interview by talking about the importance of having “strong hips”, and Kayla wonders how he’s feeling going into the Rumble match. Bryan tells her he hit “15 sets of deadlifts yesterday, and Gable will “personally loosen up my hips”. Good strategy. Matt asks Bryan about his one previous Rumble match appearance, and if tonight is a chance to “make up for lost time”. Daniel says he’s thinks it will be a “fun challenge tonight”, and talks about watching the Rumble as a kid. Bryan tells us he has “a fun history” with the Rumble match, and T.Mack asks about training at the Alpha Academy. Bryan talks about a display he and Otis recently did on Smackdown, and how that lead to a call from his wife, Brie Bella. Bryan calls Gabel and Otis “high caliber wrestlers”, and tells us he doesn’t think anyone else can go like they can. Daniel is then shown a replay of Chad Gables visit to The Bump, where Gable talks about a potential “dream match” between him and Daniel. Bryan responds to the idea, and tells us that is a match he “really wants”. Bryan continues, and says he “yearns to get back to his technical wrestling roots”, and Gable can take him back to them. Evan asks about some of DB’s recent tv matches, and Daniel tells him “I’m in a constant state of trying to perform at my best”. Kayla takes Daniel back to win he first declared for this year’s Rumble, and wonders who he would face at Wrestlemania. Daniel tells her he will look and see who is champion after tonight, and “take things from there”. Bryan hints at challenging for the Universal Championship, because he feels like Smackdown is “an underdog show”. Matt takes Bryan back to the Greatest Royal Rumble, where Daniel lasted for over an hour in the match. Daniel tells him he hopes to go in early tonight, because “I don’t get tired”. Bryan further states that “if I’m going to win the Royal Rumble, I want to earn it”. Bryan ends the topic by saying everything is “a learning experience, and test for yourself” in the WWE Universe, and he likes testing himself. Matt wonders if Daniel playing with his kids is “endurance training”, and Bryan tells him no. Daniel tells us he “never gets tired” of playing with his children, and the draining part of parenthood is “putting the kids to bed”. Kayla gets things back on track, and talks about how the Rumble is the one match Bryan hasn’t won. Daniel tells her he “doesn’t stress about it”, and talks about taking a personality test for WWE. Bryan mentions that he had a really poor score, and tells the hosts he’s “not motivated by people’s sore opinions”. DB talks about going out to “big ovations, and absolute silence”, but still having fun, and Kayla ends the interview there.

After hyping tonight’s Royal Rumble watch along with The Bump crew, as well as, DDP, Rikiski, and The Bella Twins, the hosts tell us about a few new shows being posted on the WWE Network today. Kayla then brings on the next guest, for the first time ever, Hulk Hogan!

Hulk Hogan

Hulk tells the hosts its “Royal Rumble Season”, and he’s jacked, brother! Kayla asks about the first time Hulk heard about the Rumble, and Hulk thinks Pat Patterson was “completely out of his mind” for the idea behind the match. Hulkster tells Kayla the story of how the match was presented to him, and he thinks the match “is absolutely brilliant” in hindsight. Ryan asks about the Mega Powers exploding, and Hulk does his best Macho Man voice. Hulk tells him the Rumble match is “a cat and mouse game”, and that “Randy was fair game”. Hogan finishes by saying Savage “deserved it”, and Matt asks him about Kane breaking the record for most eliminations. Hogan mentions that HE actually still has the record, because of course he does, brother. Kayla takes Hogan back to the 1990 Rumble event, where Hogan faced The Ultimate Warrior. Hulk says being in the ring that night felt like “babe Ruth pointing to center field”, and the energy was crazy in the building. Ryan wonders how it was for Hogan to be in the 1991 Rumble match, and Hulk tells him “you have to work backwards, and survive the Rumble”. Matt wants to know about how Hogan felt after winning the match, and Hulk talks about the politics behind the scenes. Hogan says that to win the Rumble “means your the top dog”. Matt then goes into talking about the 1992 Rumble, and wonders of Hogan has “remorse” for eliminating Sid. Hogan calls Sid “a one trick pony”, and he “doesn’t feel bad about it at all”. Ryan wonders what it was like for Hogan to compete in WCW’s WW3 match, and how it compares to the Rumble. Hogan tells him “it doesn’t compare”, and the Rumble match is “intense”. After a brief conversation about the upcoming Super Bowl, Ryan asks Hogan to for his thoughts on tonight’s match for the WWE Championship, between Drew McIntyre and Goldberg. Hulk tells Drew not to let Goldberg “catch you with your kilt down”, and to “have eyes in the back of your head”. Hogan shares a cool story about Andre The Giant to close the interview, where he talks about Andre drinking 12 bottles of wine in one sitting, and the hosts send the Hulkster away. The show then heads to an ad break.

Back from the break, the crew makes a few more predictions, and talk about more things they hope to see happen. Kayla then talks about WWE backstage again, and Ryan tells us Natalya will enter the Woman’s Royal Rumble match at number 30. After that, the hosts freak out about this Wednesdays guest on The Bump, Stone Cold Steve Austin. The hosts then move into a brief interview with Josiah Williams, and after that, the crew makes a few more predictions. After the predictions, Kayla brings on the final guest, Goldberg.

Goldberg

Goldberg starts off by telling us he won’t have long, because it’s “day of”. Kayla then shows him what Drew McIntyre had to say last Wednesday on The Bump. Goldberg responds, and says he likes the “little slight to Kevin Nash”. Goldberg continues, and tells the hosts he’s “coming for his neck” tonight. Matt wonders what past performer Goldberg would compare Drew to, and begins to compare Drew to his “good friend Scott Hall”. Goldberg says he’s looking forward to his “old school skills” clashing with Drew’s “new school skills”, and talks about how he loves the wrestling business now. Goldberg thinks that Drew has to beat him, or he won’t be able to prove he’s ready to lead the company into the future. T. Mack asks about Goldberg’s last few matches, where he won championship gold, and Goldberg tells him he’s “looking forward to getting in there with a talent like Drew”. Kayla wonders if Goldberg is worried about The Miz cashing in tonight, and Goldberg tells her he “took care of them earlier when I went to the toilet”. Ew. Goldberg warns Miz and Morrison that they are “walking on thin ice”, and Ryan asks about Gillberg. Goldberg thinks Gillberg is brute for being out there now, after having a heart attack recently, and he’s glad Gillberg was “able to make a check”. Matt wants to know if Goldberg still believes some comments he made recently, and Goldberg tells him “I had to get into Drew’s head”. Goldberg called the locker room “soft”, but he wasn’t aiming his comments straight at Drew. Ryan questions Goldberg about the people who want him to go away, and Goldberg tells him those people “wouldn’t have the balls to say it to my face”. Goldberg continues, and tells us that “you make due, and provide the best package possible”, whenever he makes a return. Goldberg finishes the subject, and talks about “having a responsibility to the business”. T. Mack shows Goldberg footage of his upcoming documentary, and clips of Bill working out with his son are shown. Goldberg talks about the feeling of sharing that moment with his son, and he begins to get emotional, calling it “really hard to describe”. Goldberg tells the bump crew it means “a lot”, and they play a quick game of “Score The Spear” together. Goldberg judges a few different spears from throughout his career, as well as a few from others who use the move, including Roman Reigns. Goldberg calls Romans spear “not very good”, and further states that it was “about a 2”. Goldberg also gives Bobby Lashley a 2, for his use of the spear, and Charlotte Flair gets a 4. After the game ends, Kayla thanks Goldberg for joining, and we’re on to the next segment.

Kayla thanks everyone for joining, and Evan hypes the Watch Along for tonight, as the show ends.
