WWE Co-President George Barrios On AEW Being Competition: "Welcome To The Game"

At a fireside chat at the recent 47th Annual J.P. Morgan Global Technology, Media and Communications Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, WWE Co-President George Barrios was asked about whether or not WWE considers upstart pro wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) to be competition.

Barrios responded by recalling a quote from Reed Hastings about competition in business.

"The best comment I've ever heard was from Reed Hastings who said, 'Sleep is competition,'" said Barrios. "He nailed it."

Barrios would go on to explain what the quote means and how it applies to the question at hand.

"You are competing for people's time," Barios continued. "So, whether it's Fortnite, the NBA, Kung Fu novels -- we are fighting for people's time. So, everyone is a competitor at everything."

Barrios concluded, "So yeah, AEW has announced ... and welcome to the game."

AEW is expected to formally announce their entry into "the game" at Wednesday's Warner Media Group / Turner Network Upfronts in New York City. As previously reported, the belief is that a new, weekly TV deal for the upstart promotion will be officially announced at Wednesday's event.
