WWE Elects to Oppose Trademarks Recently Registered by Cody Runnels

-- Last week, WWE officially elected to oppose recent trademark filings by AEW's Cody Runnels, specifically for the terms "Slamboree" and "The Match Beyond." The company has asked for an extension to answer those filings and were granted that by the USPTO until July 22 at which time they would need to file their extension or request to push it out even further.

-- Cody has recently attempted to trademark some names that were initially the creation of his father Dusty Rhodes while he was working for WCW and previous to that, Jim Crockett Promotions. When WWE bought out WCW in 2001, they ended up owning the intellectual property as well, which contained those two names and others. When WWE chose not to use those names for any of their events, Cody moved ahead to file those trademarks to gain ownership. He also recently filed for the trademark "Cody Rhodes", just a day after WWE let the name expire. It appears WWE has no interest in retaining that name.
