WWE Friday Night Smackdown Live Results (12/4/2020) - ThunderDome, Orlando, FL

Moment of Silence, and Ten-Bell Salute, for Pat Patterson

We have a cold open, with several WWE superstars past and present on stage. Sgt. Slaughter, Vince McMahon and others are lined up. We cut to the announcer's desk, where Michael Cole and Corey Graves stand solemnly. They announce that WWE lost one of it's closest members. They do a moment of silence, with a ten bell salute. The digital audience starts up a "Thank you, Pat!" chant as the roster stands, hands clasped before them, and we see the fans of the ThunderDome as well as a large graphic in memory of Pat above them.

Smackdown Starts

We get the full Smackdown opening, with AC/DC over the video before cutting to the ring. Kayla Braxton is in the ring and welcomes us to Friday Night Smackdown. She says her guest will be teaming up with Jey Uso against Otis & Owens later tonight. She calls him one of the most, if not the most dominant superstar of his generation. She runs down his accolades as a five time champion, etc. She calls him out, and here he comes with Paul Heyman and Jey Uso in tow!

In-Ring Interview: Roman Reigns

As Roman spends 27 minutes walking to the ring, Corey Graves and Michael Cole discuss Roman's actions as of late and his role as head of the table. Cole calls him a very arrogant, cocky Reigns; meanwhile, Graves praises Roman and his actions. Roman lifts his Universal title up high and awaits Kayla. Braxton holds the mic up for him. He tells her "If you're going to announce me, you should do it right. Know which one you missed?" Paul Heyman jumps in: "the reigning, defending, undisputed heavyweight champion...the best of the best, Roman Reigns." Braxton asks Roman about his stark comments to Jey Uso. She asks what happened last week, and we get a clip of Reigns confronting Jey Uso over the Survivor Series loss. He verbally denigrates and belittles Jey. Uso takes it out, attacking a superstar in the back. Owens intervened to save them, which set up a Jey Uso vs Kevin Owens match last week. Roman demanded Jey make Owens fear him. Uso got disqualified by using a chair; it backfired on him when KO took a chair and beat the ever loving crap out of Jey Uso, yelling into the camera, telling Roman he fears no one...including Roman. We cut to the ring. Braxton asks Reigns if he fears Kevin Owens since Owens doesn't fear him. He looks at her like she's crazy. He tells her "this is probably the biggest thing you've ever done in your career, the most relevant you've ever been, the most viewed thing you've ever been part of...and you come in here and ask me stupid questions." He tells her Michael Cole over there could come talk to him, but he gave her a chance and she's blowing it with a stupid question. She then asks if it's a possibility that Roman is using Jey as a pawn and manipulating him. Roman smiles and tells her those are stupid words for stupid people. He asks, "do I look like a man who manipulates? I'm a protector, I'm a provider." He tells us that Jey Uso is one half of the greatest tag team in the WWE but what has Jey done in the last 2-3 months? Roman criticizes her, stating that Paul went to back for her, giving her an opportunity to talk to him. He tells Heyman to tell this "amateur" how it is. Heyman tells us that the ratings for Smackdown have been on the highest surge in 2020. He goes on to praise Roman Reigns as a motivator when Kevin Owens comes out, mic in hand!
Owens says that he's been waiting all week for Roman, and since Roman isn't coming to him, he'll come to Roman. Jey gets on the mic and says that they're not down with that. Owens holds up a finger, and says "I wasn't talking to the bus boy, I was talking to the head of the table. What do you say, huh? If not now, let me think of...oh, I got just the place! Tee...elll..see! (TLC) And let's not stop there, Roman, you are the head of the table as you claim. Let's get a table in there. Let's get a ladder, let's get some chairs. Put that title on the line and you and I settle this like men. What do you say?" Heyman snatches the mic from Jey. KO continues: "Or we just do it right now, because that's fine, too! C'mon." He drops his mic. Roman basically says that they fear no one, and he accepts the challenge. He says that if he was the man he used to be, he'd whoop Kevin's ass right now. But there's a time and place for everything, and he's not a savage. There's a lady in the ring. He tells Owens to grow up and drops his mic, exiting the ring with Heyman and Uso. Owens gets on the mic as they leave and tells Roman to grow some balls because "right now, you're just a bitch!"

Backstage w/ Reigns, Uso & Heyman

Uso pleads with Reigns, telling him that he knows he overstepped by accepting the TLC match on behalf of Roman. He knows he messed up. Reigns tells him that consequences have actions, and hugs his cousin before walking off.

Match: Bayley vs Natalya

Bayley came out before the commercial. Natalya quickly makes her way to the ring, and we see a clip of last Friday's match when Natalya accidently bumped Bayley off the apron, and Bianca Belair won. She's guest commentary for htis match, wearing sunshades with dangling jewels. The bell rings and both women start. Bayley with a kick to Natalya's gut, then takes her to the ropes and uses them to hold an arm behind Nattie's head and punches her. Bayley talks trash to Biance and knocks Nattie out of the ring. Bayley breaks the count and goes out to the ringside, yelling at Bianca that she's going to teach her a thing or two--when a recovered Natalya throws her into the table. We go to commercial with Bayley on the floor as the ref counts.
Back from the break and Bayley takes Natalya down, covering for a two. Michael Cole tells us that during the break, he and Bianca talk about the fact that Bayley may be jealous of Belair. Belair isn't worried about that. Bayley hits a running knee as Natalya tries to rise. When Nattie rises again, Bayley hits the discus punch and floors her. Natalya makes her way to the corner. Nattie surprises Bayley and attempts to roll her up. Nattie dodges an attack in the corner and puts Bayley in the Sharpshooter and, very surprisingly, Natalya actually won.
Your Winner by Submission (Sharpshooter), Natalya

Tribute to Pat Patterson

We return from the break and see tweets from many big names in the WWE. Michael Cole shows us the very first Intercontinental Championship, from 1979 and won by Pat Patterson in Rio. We then get a video package, with Frank Sinatra's "My Way" over many pics of Patterson in his younger days, with so many legends, a clip of him singing "My Way." Looks very similar to the one on Raw. It is touching and was done well. It would be worth watching on YouTube or WWE.com. We see him, in the package, with almost every big name in WWE history. Again, very well done. RIP Pat Patterson, 1941-2020.

Pat Patterson Tribute Match: Daniel Bryan, Big E & Rey Mysterio vs Dolph Ziggler, Shinsuke Nakamura, & Sami Zayn

To honor Pat, we're having a tribute match that consists of only former Intercontinental Champions. Daniel Bryan is out first, followed by Rey Mysterio. Big E is out next and walks up to a bowl on a podium, full of chalk powder and runs his hands through it. We go to break. When we return from break, we get another look at the first-ever Intercontinental title. Ziggler comes out, followed by Nakamura and the current Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn. We're told all six of the superstars requested to be in this match.
Mysterio and Nakamura start things off. Mysterio with a modified hurricanrana to take down Nakamura. Both men tag in their partners--Big E and Ziggler come in. Ziggler wraps Big E up from behind, but Big E uses his strength to pull Ziggler's arms out and slams him down. He tags in Daniel Bryan. Bryan immediately dives off the top turnbuckle onto Ziggler. Bryan attempts an arm lock on Ziggler. ZIggler sends him into the ropes, and Bryan hits a shoulder tackle to floor Ziggler. Bryan runs off the ropes, leaps over Dolph, and looks to rebound--but Zayn distracts him and Ziggler attacks from behind. Bryan fires up, knocking Ziggler down and streaking across the room to hit a suicide dive on Zayn! Bryan immediately hops up onto the apron and runs over to smack Nakamura off the apron. Bryan goes back in the ring and up the ropes, ready to fly outside the ring, but Ziggler is up behind him and hits a quick dropkick that sends Bryan flying out of the ring as we go to another break.
We return from break and find Ziggler beating Bryan in the corner. Bryan punches Ziggler, then turns and punches Nakamura and Zayn before being attacked by Ziggler. Both men run and rebound off the opposite ropes, then run back again. Both go for a cross body and collide, downing them both. Both men make hot tags. Big E comes in as does Nakamura. Big E hits a back drop and a series of belly to belly suplexes. He runs off the ropes and hits a big splash. Nakamura hits a desperation step-up kick to gain some separation. Big E stumbles to the corner. Nakamura runs in but Big E catches him and hits a Urinage! Big E covers for a close two, only broken up by Ziggler! Big E and Ziggler tag out. Rey Mysterio and Sami Zayn come in. Mysterio showcases his speed and agility as he runs circles around Zayn until Zayn hits the Blue Thunder Bomb and gets a close two! Ziggler and Bryan are tagged in. Bryan hits his signature corner running kick, then hits the Yes Kicks on Ziggler. Bryan goes up top with Ziggler, attempting a suplex, but Ziggler bombs him down and rolls up for a close two. Both men execute a series of moves, attempted submissions into pins. Very impressive. Ziggler attempts to take the upper hand, but Bryan uses his kicks to keep ZIggler grounded. Bryan goes for roundhouse but Ziggler counters it into a Famouser! Ziggler covers but Big E makes the save! Nakamura and Big E hit the ring, as does Rey, and all three end outside. Ziggler is tagged by Sami Zayn, and Zayn attempts to capitalize on the blind tag. Bryan, however, counters it into the Yes Lock! Zayn barely gets to the ropes. Zayn is up and hits two kicks, then a brainbuster and attempts a cover. Both men alternate rolling each up, with Bryan eventually picking up the win with what Michael Cole called the "Pat Patterson quick one."
Your Winners, Rey Mysterio, Daniel Bryan & Big E

After the Match

Big E, Mysterio and Bryan celebrate on the ramp as their foes stand in the ring. They huddle up then charge the ring. Nakamura and Zayn are immediately sent out of the ring. Ziggler finds himself with his three opponents surrounding him. He drops to his knees and pleads for mercy, then claims they're friends and asks for a high-five from Bryan. Ziggler is clocked hard and stumbles, landing on the middle rope. Mysterio hits the 619, and Big E catches Ziggler with the Big Ending. The virtual crowd and ThunderDome do a big "Yes!" chant as we head to the back.

Backstage w/ Kayla Braxton & Kevin Owens and Otis

Braxton recaps that not only is Owens in a tag match against Roman tonight, he's also challenged Roman to a TLC match. She asks why Owens has beef with Roman. Owens doesn't want to squash the beef, even if you give him a rum ham. Owens says that he used to look up to Roman but not now. He says that he tries to be kind to everyone who works in the back, and Lince opens a door behind him. Owens tells him they're live and asks if he needs anything, and Lince walks off, still texting. Owens prattles on until Otis shows up. KO asks Kayla to give them a minute. Otis tells Owens that he knows KO's reputation with partners, but Owens is also a blue collar just like him. Otis is fired up and ready to get his hands on Roman and Jey and bulldoze right through them.

Match Flo: Carmella & Sasha Banks

Our Match Flo shows several clips of Carmella attacking Sasha Banks as Carmella claims that she's the most dominant woman in the division and calls the shots and gives the orders. We then see Sasha finally getting her hands on Carmella last week, with Sasha yelling for Carmella to come find her next week (tonight).

Interview: Carmella & Sasha Bank

Both women are in different locations, and do this by split screen. Michael Cole wants to start with Carmella, but Sasha tells him to hold on. They verbally spar a bit, but Sasha reminds Carmella that she has the title, not Carmella. Cole asks if there's a chance that these two are maybe more alike than they think, based on Carmella's comments last week that she used to be like Banks. Carmella points out that she won the first two Money in the Bank matches. Banks points out Carmella had help from "the guy with no chin" and R-Truth. Banks says that she's out of Carmella's league and no matter what Carmella does, she will never be in the same league as Banks. Carmella claims Banks is jealous. Carmella says that they both came up in NXT together, and that Banks is jealous of her. Banks says she'll give a title shot to Carmella at TLC but Carmella's never seen a bitch as bad as Banks (her words, paraphrased.)

Match: Murphy w/ the Mysterio Family vs King Corbin

Murphy comes down first, Aaliyah Mysterio at his side and Rey/Dominick Mysterio following behind as we go to break. When we return, King Baron Corbin makes his way out to the ring. We get clips from last week when Corbin was essentially screwed out of a win by the Mysterio family. As Corbin comes out, he waves his hands and two men in dark suits and with hoodies come out with him.
The bell rings and we start things off. Murphy and Corbin both hop foot to foot as they size each other up. Corbin backs Murphy into the corner and throws his shoulders into Murphy's midsection repeatedly. The ref forces Corbin to give him space. Murphy charges and leaps, but Corbin catches him and bombs him down. Corbin throws Murphy halfway across the ring. Corbin goes to stomp Murphy but he dodges it. Murphy goes to the apron and throws his shoulder into Corbin's gut. Murphy goes up top and Corbin grabs him by the neck, Kane style. Murphy attempts to roll up Corbin but Corbin is too strong. Corbin sends Murphy into the ropes, and Murphy comes off the ropes and takes Corbin down and out of the ring. Corbin's guards walk up close, keeping guard. Corbin throws Murphy into the timekeeper's area as we go to another break.
And we're back from the break as Corbin throws elbows into a downed Murphy. Corey Graves points out that the two guards are Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake, formerly of the Forgotten Sons, but with a haircut and shaves. Corbin with a big slam on Murphy and covers for two. Corbin takes his time, pounding Murphy. Corbin runs off the rope and hits a wicked running fist on Murphy. And he does it again! Murphy is flat on the canvas. Murphy fights back, using an elevated elbow choke. Murphy with a dropkick that takes down the King. Both men rise and fight in the middle of the ring. Murphy with a series of strikes. Corbin sends Murphy into the corner, then does his Misdirection Clothesline-but Murphy sees it coming and hits a devastating knee to Corbin's jaw! Corbin spills outside. Murphy sends Corbin in and stares at Blake & Cutler, then tells the Mysterios to stand back, stand by. Finally, Corbin waves his hands at his guards and Cutler and Blake run over and attack Rey and Dominick without warning, taking them down against the barricade. Murphy is distracted and it allows Corbin to hit the End of Days for the win.
Your Winner, King Corbin (w/ Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake)

Backstage Promo: the Street Profits

The Profits discuss KO and Otis versus Reigns and Jey Uso. They point out KO's tendency to turn on his partners, and also that they can't tell if Roman is mad at Jey or not. Robert Roode & Cesaro walk up. Roode tells the Profits that he and Ziggler defeated them last week, so they deserve a title shot. Cesaro argues that his team deserves the shot, and all six men begin to squabble. We cut to the ring for our main event.

Tag Team Main Event Match: Kevin Owens & Otis vs Roman Reigns & Jey Uso

Kevin Owens is out first as Cole reminds us that Owens doesn't respect or fear Roman Reigns. We go to break. When we return, Otis is in the ring and Jey Uso comes out. Otis and Jey Uso start things off.
Otis starts strong, using clubbing blows on Uso. Otis throws Uso across the ring. Uso attempts to fight back and runs off the ropes, but Otis hits a stuff clothesline that flattens him. Otis sends Uso into the corner and charges, but Uso moves and Otis goes shoulder-first into the post. KO reaches over the ropes and tags in. Jey Uso hits a Samoan drop and Roman Reigns finally comes out for this match. Uso goes to grab KO, but KO hits a step-up enziguri that takes Uso down. Without a tag, Roman runs across the ring and Superman Punches Otis off the apron! Reigns sends Otis into the barricade, then the announce table, then the steel stairs. Reigns uses the steel stairs to beat Otis--and somehow this is legal because neither are the men tagged in, apparently--until KO comes in for the save. We go to break.
Back from the break, and KO and Roman are legal in the ring. Roman drops KO. Reigns pulls Owens up by an arm and takes him to his corner, tagging Jey in. Uso stands over a fallen Owens, and yells "that's your problem, Kevin Owens, you talk too damn much!" Uso then sends Owens into the corner and stomps away at him in the corner. Uso drops down and chokes KO as the ref counts and warns him. Uso breaks it, leaving KO seated in the corner. Uso yells "I gotta getchu, man I gotta getchu!" He backs up and runs at the corner, looking for an Uso splash, but KO moves! Owens runs in and hits a cannonball on Uso! Both men get to their feet at the same time. Owens with forearms; Uso whips KO into the ropes and attempts a back body drop, but KO sees it coming. Owens drops Uso and hits a standing senton. Uso to his feet and lands an uppercut, but KO drops Jey Uso on the top of his head and covers for two. Owens gets to his feet and yells at Roman, telling him to come in the ring and do his own business. Owens turns his attention to Jey but Jey hits him with a back elbow. Jey's offense is short lived, though, as KO hits a Samoan drop on Jey Uso! He yells "what now? Get in the ring! C'mon, c'mon!" at Roman. Uso hits Owens from behind and Roman comes in, clubbing KO, too. Jey lands a superkick and climbs up the corner--but Roman tells him to get down. "This is my show, I finish this" Roman tells Jey. Uso goes to tag in Roman but Owens is up and clubs Roman off the apron! Owens with a Stunner and gets a two, as the pin is broken by Roman. Roman flips and locks a triangle hold on Owens and the ref calls for the bell and disqualification.
Your Winner by Disqualification, Kevin Owens & Otis!

After the Match

Owens is still isolated in the ring, with Otis nowhere in sight. Jey gets two chairs and he and Roman take turns smacking Owens with the chairs! A dozen or more hits that are followed up by Jey going up top and diving, hitting the Uso splash. Jey is then kicked by Roman. Roman yells at him about having to repeat himself as he beats his own cousin with the top edge of a steel chair. Roman drags Jey over to KO and says something that's inaudible. Reigns takes his Universal title from Paul and lays it on KO. "You're trying to split my family up? You wanted my attention? The whole world is watching...now you have (all their) attention!" Reigns punches Owens. He tells Owens that Owens should've just taken the title but, instead, decided to attack Reigns and his family. Reigns promises to take KO's manhood (cue Deliverance), his livelihood. Reigns tells KO that Owens now has Reigns attention. Reigns holds the title up high as the digital audience chants "you suck" and the ThunderDome audience all give him thumbs down and we end our broadcast!
