Welcome back to Friday night SmackDown here on Rajah.com! Your host is the most electrifying name in sports entertainment live results today, Rajah's smack-talking jabroni, Mike "Hulk" Hogan! While our official preview didn't say much, we do know that we've got a big Fatal 4-way Intercontinental Championship match ahead of us.
So with all that said, let's get things started! For those of you who want just the results and not the novella, click here!
WWE Friday Night SmackDown Live Results (5/21/2021) -- ThunderDome III (Yuengling Center), Tampa, FL
Show Opener: Parade of Champions
Michael Cole and Pat McAfee welcome us to the ThunderDome. At the top of the ramp is a "parade of champions," and all of SmackDown's champions stand atop and celebrate. The WWE Women's Tag Team champions are present as well. We then get hype for the Fatal 4-Way.
In the Ring: Sonya Deville
Sonya makes the announcement that, starting in July, the WWE will return to the road and leave the ThunderDome behind. We see various news articles that were released as the news broke earlier today. She asks us to help welcome the "SmackDown parade of champions." She announces the first-ever father-son tag team champions in WWE history, the Mysterios. She also introduces the WWE Women's Tag Team champions Natalya and Tamina. She introduces Apollo Crews and mentions his match tonight. The crowd boos loudly. Crews gets on a mic, still at the top of the ramp, and tells them to cut the music. He promises to unleash annihilation and total destruction on his opponents tonight. "One by one, they will all fall and when the dust has settled I will once again be victorious!" He then kisses his belt and tells it he loves it repeatedly. Deville moves on to Bianca Belair, fresh off her successful title defense against Bayley. The digital crowd loudly chants "EST!" Finally she announces the head of the table, and out comes Universal Champion Roman Reigns' special counsel, Paul Heyman, instead.
"How nice. A parade of champions. Except its not a parade of champions, its a parade of title-holders. Title-holder, title-holder, title-holder. Roman Reigns is not a title-holder, Roman Reigns is a champion. Not just a champion, the champion. Not just the champion, the preeminent champion. Not just of SmackDown but all of WWE, all of sports entertainment. Which is why when someone buys a ticket to these live events, they will do so with the confidence int he WWE that we are represented by a preeminent champion like your tribal chief...Roman Reigns. Who will not be one of any of your parade of 'title-holders.' (There will be) one later tonight at Roman Reigns' leisure. Thank you very much." Heyman heads off to the back. As Sonya tries to wrap the segment, Bayley comes out. She points out her record-setting title reign, the fact that she was a double champion, and is incensed that Bayley wasn't even mentioned in this parade of champions. She insults Dominik, telling him he doesn't belong there and he's riding his daddy's coattails. Bayley gives props to Crews, then accuses Belair of cheating by using her ponytail at WrestleMania to win the title off Banks and used it to help her beat Bayley this past Sunday. Bayley demands the title be stripped and given to her right now. Belair's heard enough and heads down the ramp and into the ring. Belair holds her title up and tells Bayley repeatedly "its my title, come take it." Without warning, Shayna Baszler attacks Belair! Nia Jax hits the ring as do the women's tag champions. Jax and Baszler leave them all down as we go to a break and, probably, a six-woman tag match tonight, I'm guessing.
Six-Woman Tag Team Match: Bayley and Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax vs SmackDown Women's Champion Bianca Belair and Women's Tag Team Champions Natalya & Tamina
And as we all predicted, this is now officially a six-woman match. As we return from the break, the competitors are set up. We'll start this match already in progress with Nia and Tamina. Both big women struggle with each other. Jax pushes Tamina into her corner and tags in Bayley. Bayley begins to work over Tamina, softening her with strikes in the corner. Bayley looks for a suplex but Tamina put son the brakes and counters with a suplex of her own. Tamina tags in Natalya. Nattie with two snap suplexes before Baszler counters a scoop slam. Baszler takes control and begins manipulating Nattie's left shoulder. Baszler lays Nattie down, puts her foot to the back of Nattie's shoulder and drops back, snapping the joint. Jax is tagged and attempts a cover. Natalya reaches for her corner. Finally Belair gets the tag and comes in hot. Baszler charges Belair in the corner but Belair dodges it. Big spinebuster from Belair. Belair goes up top but Bayley and Jax drag Baszler out of the ring. Belair changes her stance and dives to the outside, crashing into all three opponents. We go to break as Belair rubs her knee and Cole exclaims the champ is hurt.
Back from the break, Belair and Bayley are in the ring. Bayley continues to focus on the injured left knee of the champ. Bayley with a rear arm lock. The digital crowd and her team begin a clap, cheering her on. Belair attempts to shake free of Bayley. Bayley takes Natalya off the apron with a strike. Belair escapes and tags in Tamina. Tamina hits the ring hot, taking Bayley to a corner and wailing away on her. Tamina streaks over to the corner and attacks her cousin Nia, then Baszler. Tamina drops Bayley and tags in Nattie. Nattie with a quick set of moves before tagging Tamina back in. Tamina covers and would have the win--if not for a rope break by the veteran Bayley. Nattie is tagged back in. Natalya looks for the Discus Clothesline but misses. Natalya fails to see Bayley tag in Baszler and looks for a Sharpshooter on Bayley. Baszler attacks Natalya. Tamina comes in to help even the odds for a moment before the ref makes her return to the apron. Natalya with a Sharpshooter attempt to Baszler, who fights it. All women now get involved in a series a chaotic pairings. Bayley hits a Bayley to Belly on Belair on the floor. Tamina and Jax collide and brawl to the outside. Natalya finds herself in the Kirifuda Clutch with no assistance and taps out.
Your Winners by Submission, Bayley, Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler!
Backstage Interview: Kayla Braxton with Big E
Kayla's in the back with Big E and asks him about the big Fatal 4-way match tonight. Big E gives his usual positive speech and promises to leave no doubt that he'll leave tonight as our rightful Intercontinental Champion. He tells Kayla it's time, and says "awwww, let's go Kayla!" We go to break.
Video Promo: Aleister Black
We get another creepy vignette. Aleister tells us his body is marked with pain from whatever his father did to him. He asks where we'd be without a "dysfunctional army of agony." It looks like the writers googled "creepy words" and just threw them together. He goes on to talk about how we live proudly in our cesspool of sins and denial because it's all we are. It has become our identity to be loathsome and blithe. Blind? Something not-nice. He calls us sick and dying animals and states its time for him to separate the weak from the strong. As his father taught him, it is time to cull the herd. We see him topless, tats on display, stretching his arms with the overlay of a fallen angel or the such. YouTube it, maybe you'll understand it better than me.
King Corbin vs King Shinsuke Nakamura
We cut back to the ThunderDome. Corbin comes out first, missing his crown (Nakamura stole it last week.) We see clips from Nakamura's social media accounts in which he's wearing the crown, mocking Corbin. Corbin gets on the mic and tells us that he wasn't going to say anything; he was just going to let his fists do the talking for himself. But after seeing the way Nakamura mocked him, he's taken offense with Nakamura. He calls Nakamura a false-king, and states that a real king drives a Ferrari, respects the crown, yada yada. He then promises to grind Nakamura's face into the mat with the heel of his boot, then Corbin will send his crown off to be polished and returned to the head of the "one true king of WWE." He's then interrupted by musician Rick Boogs, playing a lead guitar at the top of the entrance area. We're also told he's just Corbin without a crown. Out comes Nakamura, wearing his own robe and the crown as Rick Boogs plays the lead guitar to Nakamura's theme. The crowd goes crazy over this and we head to a break!
Back from the break. This match is already underway. Corbin takes control briefly. Corbin uses a Powerbomb to shut down a flurry of kicks from Nakamura and covers for a two. Corbin stands on King Nakamura's face and pulls the arm. Corbin takes King Nakamura to the corner and throws several fists to his gut. The former Golden Gloves boxer drops the king to the mat. Rick Boogs yells "you've got something coming for ya" at ringside as Pat McAfee wonders what kind of name "Boogs" is. Corbin continues to control the slow pace, twisting the neck. King Nakamura again attempts to fire off shots and again, Corbin drops the king. After a few long moments, the king begins his comeback. King Nakamura with several strong strikes. Nakamura with a facebuster. Nakamura charges Corbin in the corner but the once and future king sidesteps and counters it with a rear snap suplex. King Nakamura rolls in pain on the mat. Corbin grabs the king as he rises and looks for a chokeslam. Nakamura runs off the ropes and right into a Deep Six by Corbin! Corbin covers for a close two. Boogs begins to play the lead riff from Nakamura's theme, distracting Corbin. King Nakamura then rolls Corbin up to steal the win! He celebrates as Boogs plays his music up the ramp, escorting him tot he back as Corbin is livid.
Your Winner and STILL the King, Shinsuke Nakamura
Backstage: Sonya Deville with Jimmy Uso>
Jimmy's back stage, talking to Sonya in an effort to bring the Usos back. She asks Jimmy if he checked with Jey. Jimmy states Jey always has his back. Jimmy tells Sonya that "we (Usos) want the smoke". Sonya says a match that big has to be billed and promoted, so next week we'll have the Usos vs the Street Profits.
Backstage Promo: Kevin Owens
KO claims that he was called the prize fighter during his first two years in the WWE. He plans on winning tonight, runs down each opponent, and will become a three-time IC champion if he has his way.
In the Ring: Roman Reigns with Paul Heyman and Jey Uso
It's time to hear from the Head of the Table. You've got about 6 minutes for him to walk down to the ring. Get a snack or a drink. We go to commercials. After the break, we find Roman, Heyman and Jey all in the ring. We get a Progressive Match Flo that showed highlights from this past Sunday's Cesaro v Reigns match. Great match, you should watch it if you have the means and opportunity. We also see the surprise attack from Seth Rollins, who used a chair to target Cesaro's arm and hit a post-match Stomp. After the package we return to the ring. The digital crowd loudly chants "Roman sucks" as Heyman hands the Champ a mic. He waits a few moments then speaks. "I believe myself to be a humble man. IN fact, I take every opportunity that I can to teach my sons about humility, Paul. But to be completely honest, I don't like to brag on live television, so I'm gonna take this opportunity to allow my special counsel to celebrate me." He smiles big and passes the mic back to Heyman. "This is indeed a unique surprise. Ladies and gentlemen, I have a moment here to acknowledge your tribal chief. Undefeated since his return to WWE. Scared the Fiend over to Monday Night Raw. Humanized the Monster, Braun Strowman. Baptized his own cousin back into the championship bloodline. KO'd Kevin Owens. Scored the most declaratively dominant pin fall in the history of WrestleMania main events when he stacked Edge and Daniel Bryan on top of each other and pinned them both as if it wasn't a triple threat match, but a handicapped match against the end-all, be-all Universal Champion....and then took personal pleasure in banishing Daniel Bryan off of SmackDown and into a life of Bella retirement." He moves on to address Cesaro, the latest to fall to the Tribal Chief. Roman is all smiles still. Heyman calls this a career highlight for him tonight, to not only celebrate but acknowledge the preeminent champion in all of WWE and sports entertainment. Roman demands Jimmy Uso come out so, of course, out comes Cesaro.
Cesaro has his right arm in a sling. Roman grins and asks, "what you gonna do? You only got one arm." Cesaro shrugs and calls it a flesh wound (a la Steven Segal). Cesaro starts walking to the ring, still on the mic. He tells Roman he'll take Roman on any way, any day, and--is ambushed by Seth Rollins for the second time this week. Rollins whips Cesaro into the stairs and pummels him a bit before officials send him to the back. He yells back, over his shoulder, "when will you learn?" Cesaro is helped to his feet by the officials and tenderly holds his arm. Rollins runs back down the ramp and attacks Cesaro again. Rollins rips off the sling and uses the injured arm to jerk Cesaro to the ground. Rollins hits the Stomp. Jamie Noble and other officials get Rollins to back down and he agrees to leave...then jumps the barricade and runs around the ring, hitting the Stomp on Cesaro on the steel ramp! We head to break.
Backstage: Seth Rollins, Cesaro
We return and see Seth backstage. He watches as Cesaro's wheeled on a stretcher past him and grabs Cesaro's collar, leaning over the stretcher and yelling again "when are you gonna learn?"
Singles Match: Dominik Mysterio w/ Rey Mysterio vs Robert Roode w/ Dolph Ziggler
As the father-son record-setting championship team make their way out, we're treated to clips (courtesy of Pizza Hut) from their history win this past Sunday. We cut back to the ring and out come their opponents--to new music! Roode tells Dominik not to let the big win Sunday go to his head. "Let's face it, your dad did all the work and you just reaped the benefits. Like (how) you've lived your entire life." Roode then claims that "bring your son to work-day is now over" and, again, tells Dominik that he doesn't belong there. We're reminded that Dominik pinned Roode Sunday to win the belts. The bell rings and Roode takes an early control. Dom attempts a roll-up but only gets two. Roode sets Dom up top and climbs the ropes. Dom fights Roode off with fists, then shoves Roode off. Dom dives off the top and connects with a crossbody on Roode. Dominik looks for the Tornado DDT but Roode blocks it. Roode sets up for the Glorious DDT--has anyone seen him actually hit that this year?--and it's reversed by Dom, who sends Roode across the middle rope. Dom's thinking 6-1-9. Rey and Dolph have an encounter at ringside, with Dolph left down on the ground. Dominik counters a Roode whip. Dominik sets up and hits the 6-1-9. Dominik goes up top and connects with the Frog Splash to pick up the win in a relatively short, but interesting, match.
Your Winner, Dominik Mysterio!
Backstage: the Usos
Jimmy is excited when he speaks to Jey. Jey's upset that Jimmy made a tag match without talking to him first. Jey tells Jimmy he has to tell Roman about the match as "I owe him that." Jimmy tries to sell Jey on the match and the fun they've had. We go to break.
Backstage: Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and Jey UsoL
Jey approaches Roman cautiously and tells him about the match. Roman is a bit passive aggressive, but embraces his cousin as the situation continues to progress.
Backstage Promo: the Street Profits
The Street Profits want the smoke.
Backstage Interview: Kayla Braxton with Sami Zayn
Kayla tries to question Sami about his match tonight, but he goes off on her. He calls her a tool of the big corporate/mainstream media/Illuminati/whatever. He goes on to point out he's heard the threats but he's going to reclaim his title tonight.
Intercontinental Championship Fatal 4-way Main Event Match: Apollo Crews(c) w/ Cmdr. Azeez vs Big E vs Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens
And out comes Sami Zayn first. Out next is Kevin Owens. After a commercial break, our final challenger--Big E--makes his way out. Last, but never least, is the reigning Intercontinental Champion, Apollo Crews with Commander Azeez. There are no count-outs and there is no DQ, but the title can only change hands inside the ring. The bell rings and KO goes after Zayn. Crews attacks KO from behind, and Big E attacks Crews from behind. Big E and Crews take it to an opposite corner as KO pursues Zayn outside. Crews kicks away at Big E, dropping him to one knee. Crews with a big right. Crews runs off the ropes but Big E counters the sequence with a back elbow. KO comes into the ring and looks for a Stunner on Big E. Big E catches the foot, and KO fires back with a step-up Enziguri that sends Big E outside. Sami Zayn attacks Owens from behind and pounds on his back. Zayn uses the ropes to help get leverage on Owens. Big E makes the save, bringing Zayn outside and pounding him with rights. Crews attempts to sneak attack but is caught with a right hand. Big E lays Crews on the apron next to Sami Zayn and begins to pound on each one's chest, alternating bodies, before climbing up on the apron. Big E with a running splash onto Zayn and Crews on the apron as they all tumble out! Kevin Owens darts across the ring and dives out onto them as we go to break.
Back from the break. Big E and Crews collide in the ring. Zayn and Owens are outside the ring, out of sight. Crews takes Big E out of the ring and slams Big E's face into the steel steps. KO is up and looks to attack Crews, but the champ counters his offense and sends him to the ground. Crews climbs the apron and hits a standing Moonsault onto Big E at ringside. Zayn comes out and Crews pummels him against the barricade. Crews whips Zayn into the barricade. Owens gets involved. Crews is down. KO takes Zayn into the ring and hits a Swanton Bomb and covers but Big E makes the save. Outside the ring, Commander Azeez attempts to rouse Crews. Big E and KO battle in the ring a few moments before E puts KO down with a big slam. Crews hits the ring and uses the ropes to assist in hitting a German Suplex. Crews keeps the waist locked and hits two more--three German Suplexes in a row on Big E, impressive! Crews covers but Owens comes in to make the save. Zayn hits an Exploder Suplex on KO in the corner then goes for the Helluva Kick. KO dodges and goes for the Stunner; Sami blocks it and plants KO with a Michinoku Driver. Zayn punches KO and sets him up on the top turnbuckle. Zayn climbs up. KO hulks up and spins Zayn as he leaps off the top, crashing Zayn down into the mat and covering for a two. Crews and KO battle on the apron next, and Crews drops KO on the apron across his neck. Suddenly, Big E spears Crews through the ropes and we go to break with bodies everywhere!
Back again from the break. Crews hammers Big E with fists, frustrated. Crews looks for a whip but Big E reverses it into a belly-to-belly suplex toss. He hits one on Sami Zayn, then another suplex on Crews for good measure. Big E runs off the ropes and into a big boot from Sami Zayn. Owens whips Zayn and pops him up, looking for the pop-up sit-out powerbomb but Zayn escapes. They struggle for a moment before Owens hits a package driver/neckbreaker combo. Owens heads up top but is intercepted by Crews. Owens appears stunned on the turnbuckle. Zayn and Crews begin brawling suddenly instead. Zayn looks for a Helluva Kick but Crews blocks it and threatens a single-leg suplex. Big E comes up behind Crews and German Suplexes both men at the same time! Owens dives off the top and hits Big E with the Frog Splash for a close two. All four men are down; Big E is out of the ring. They're all slow to their feet. KO notices Crews and Zayn in opposite corners. KO with a running clothesline on Crews, a cannonball on Zayn, a suplex to Big E as he enters, followed by a cannonball on Crews. Zayn breaks Owens' streak with a Blue Thunderbomb, picking up a close, close two. Just Zayn and Owens in the ring. Zayn drags Owens, repositioning him in the middle. Zayn climbs out onto the apron and climbs up the turnbuckles. Crews comes up on the apron to interfere but Zayn fights him off. Big E comes over and Zayn kicks him off. Zayn dives at Owens; Owens moves, Zayn rolls through and right into Big E who plants him down hard into the mat. A bit of chaos breaks out. KO sends Crews into the ring. As he tries to enter, Zayn attacks him and Owens hits the floor hard. Zayn enters the ring and charges Crews, but Big E intercepts him with a Urinage. Big E drops Crews and is forced to brawl with Commander Azeez outside briefly. Big E comes into the ring and the screen goes white with blue mist and fog and out emerges...Aleister Black! Black makes his way into the ring and connects with Black Mass on Big E. Crews quickly covers and picks up the win. Afterwards, Crews celebrates with his title as Black smiles at him from up the ramp and we end our show.
Your Winner and STILL Intercontinental Champion, Apollo Crews!
And there you have it, folks, another solid episode of SmackDown as it cements its place as the #2 show behind NXT (I might be biased). May you all have a happy and great weekend and we look forward to seeing you back Monday night for Raw. Stay cool, stay frosty, and stay safe out there.
