WWE Friday Night Smackdown Quick Recap for 1/22/2021

Matches Tonight: 5*
  • The WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, Asuka & Charlotte Flair, defeated the Riott Squad in non-title action. Billie Kay, unfortunately, was kicked from her brief stint in the Riott Squad after costing them the match.
  • Cesaro defeated Dolph Ziggler in a good match between the two heels.
  • Sasha Banks defeated Reginald, Camrella's Sommelier, in what was actually an incredibly good match and possibly the best of the year to date (three weeks in, be that as it may). She won via submission with the Bank Statement.
  • Big E successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against Apollo Crews, but only due to a no contest victory as Sami Zayn attacked both men with Helluva Kicks.
  • Bianca Belair defeated Bayley in the "Ultimate Athletic Obstacle Course Challenge." Bayley, of course, attempted to alter the course to make it more challenging and, when Bianca easily won, attacked her ruthlessly.
  • King Corbin defeated Dominick Mysterio, clean, in a very short match. It wasn't a squash match, really, just short. Like Rey.
  • Our main event match between Paul Heyman and Adam Pearce never materialized. Heyman faked a leg injury, just like Pearce did last week and Roman Reigns came down to fill in. The match never officially started and after a few minutes of Roman beating Pearce up the ramp and into the side-stage area, Kevin Owens came out to make the save. See below.
  • * Five matches, a sixth match that never happened (the main event) and an obstacle course that may be considered a seventh match.

Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Sami Zayn chained himself to the barricade near the bottom of the entrance ramp in protest of being "screwed" over last week in his match against Apollo Crews (who did pull the tights to cheat--after Zayn attempted it first).
  • Paul Heyman challenged Adam Pearce to a match after a verbal bit of sparring. See the full results for more details.
  • Our program ended with Kevin Owens annihilating the Universal Champion, hitting a pair of Stunners (including countering a Superman Punch into a Stunner), then hit the Pop-up Powerbomb to plant Reigns through the announcer's table to end our show.
