WWE Friday Night SmackDown Quick Recap for Month January 21, 2022
Matches Tonight: Six (approx. 35 minutes)
- Singles Rematch: Sir Kofi Kingston w/ Big E vs Madcap Moss w/ Happy Corbin. Raw's Big E showed up to support Kingston as Woods is still out on injury. Kingston defeated Moss with a non-finisher jump kick. 8:25-8:34pm EST.
- Singles Rematch: Natalya vs Aliyah. Short match that saw Aliyah win by DQ when Natalya refused to heed the ref's warning. Post match, Xia Li "the Protector" saved Aliyah from a post-match attack. 8:41-8:43pm EST.
- Tag Match: The Viking Raiders vs Los Lotharios. Short match that saw the Raiders pick up the win with the Viking Experience. 8:51-8:54pm EST.
- SmackDown Women's Championship Contenders Match: Charlotte Flair(c) vs Naomi. Sonya Deville appointed herself the special guest referee and, in a throwback to the Montreal Screwjob, Deville claims Naomi tapped in a Figure Four when she clearly didn't. Even McAfee references Bret Hart/the screwjob. 9:03-9:06pm EST.
- Singles Match: Ricochet vs Sheamus w/ Ridge Holland. Short match that saw Sheamus return to an impressive form as he picked up the easy victory in short fashion. 9:27-9:30pm EST.
- Main Event Special Stipulation Non-Title Tag Match: This vs That. Fantastic match that saw Nashville absolutely ON FIRE for Seth Rollins. Rollins picked up the DQ win when Roman Reigns attacked. The Usos are now barred from ringside during the Universal Championship match in eight days. 9:43-9:58pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
- The Bloodline Acknowledge Roman Reigns' Universal Championship Milestone: The Bloodline praised Reigns' record-setting reign as Universal Champion and showed a video package that highlighted some of the biggest moments over the last 508 days. The Usos & Reigns exchanged words with Rollins, leading to a tag match. If Rollins & KO defeat the Usos, the Usos are barred from the ringside during their title match at the Rumble; if Rollins loses, however, he'll lose his title shot at the Rumble in eight days. 8:03-8:20pm EST.
- Return to Television: "the Protector" Xia Li made the save for Aliyah when Natalya attempted a post-match beatdown. Her gimmick is now "anti bullying" and "the protector" per Cole.
- InZayn: Tonight saw the second episode of Sami Zayn's "InZayn" show--his attempt to rip off Jackass. Zayn pretend to shock himself with a cattle prod to out-Jackass Knoxville. Knoxville arrived, tasered Zayn, then threw him out the ring over the top rope while stating he'd see him at the Rumble in eight days. 9:14-9:19pm EST.
- Finally...: WWE Official Adam Deville, alongside Hall of Fame legend Eric Bischoff, announced that Naomi will finally get her match against Sonya Deville next week on SmackDown.
- Cameos: Eric Bischoff appeared tonight, as did "Double J" Jeff Jarrett who, in full Double J attire, complimented Rick Boogs on his guitar playing.
