WWE Friday Night SmackDown Quick Recap (October 22, 2021)

For those of you who want just the quick results and don't want the details of matches, this is a quick recap of tonight's show. There are spoilers for tonight's show below. The full results can be found right here and you can find our preview over here! Tonight marks the official start of the new rosters and, as we push Crown Jewel out of mind, we can start looking forward to the annual mega-event Survivor Series. The match count--and length--were pretty short but, considering most of their talent just finished half a day traveling just to make it to the arena, it was well executed.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown Quick Recap for October 22, 2021

Matches Tonight: Four
  • Singles Match: Drew McIntyre vs Sami Zayn. Zayn answered an open challenge from McIntyre and debuted pretty good new, heavier entrance music. Quite a good match, actually, that saw Drew pick up the win. 8:42-8:50pm EST.
  • WWE Crown Rematch: Mansoor vs Mustafa Ali. Very short match that saw Mansoor win again. 9:10-9:13pm EST.
  • Tag Match: Hit Row vs Dustin Lawyer & Daniel Williams. McAfee tells us that Dustin Lawyer won several straight matches at the county fair. Hit Row dismantled the duo in a squash. The local talent never got in a lick of offense. 9:21-9:22pm EST.
  • Non-Title Singles Match: Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura w/ Rick Boogs vs Happy Corbin w/ Madcap Moss. Even if we've seen it a dozen times, this was a surprisingly good match that saw Corbin steal the win off a Moss distraction. 9:33-9:43pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • The Bloodline Opens the Show: Roman Reigns, with Paul Heyman, opened our program. Roman demanded Lesnar come out to face him after hearing Lesnar tweeted threats aimed at Reigns. During the first quarter of our show--which this occupied--Lesnar did eventually hit the ring. Lesnar destroyed Reigns, the Usos, and half the men's roster who attempted to intervene at WWE Officials' orders. Pearce suspended Lesnar indefinitely, which prompted Lesnar to return to the ring and hit a pair of F5s on Pearce while insisting he couldn't hear Pearce's order. 8:00-8:32pm EST.
  • Hail to the King, Baby: The New Day celebrated the beginning of the reign of King Xavier Woods. 8:57-9:03pm EST.
  • A Hit Debut: the Hit Row faction made their SmackDown debut tonight. The first segment, prior to the match, featured each member introducing themselves while also praising their fellow Rowers. 9:15-9:18pm EST.
  • Same SmackDown, Different Day: the roster changes are officially enforced as of tonight's program.
  • Coming Soon: Ridge Holland, Aliyah, Humberto Carrillo & Angel Garza, Sheamus, Xia Li (and a bunch of others who didn't get promos).
  • Like Baseball Cards: Raw Champion Charlotte Flair exchanged titles with SmackDown champion Becky Lynch in our main event segment, with both women making veiled threats at each other as per usual. Becky Lynch openly challenged Flair for the SmackDown title and, after Sasha Banks became involved, left an open challenge to take on whomever is the SmackDown champion at Survivor Series--Becky Two-Belts wants to come back. 9:51-9:59pm EST.
