The main event of this past weekend's WWE Saturday Night's Main Event special saw "The Ring General" GUNTHER defeat 17-time World Champion John Cena via submission. Cena submitted to GUNTHER’s sleeper hold, marking his official retirement from in-ring competition.
Following his loss, Cena shared a new message on his Instagram account, which seems to reference the recent event. The post features an image of Obi-Wan Kenobi from “Star Wars: A New Hope”, drawing a comparison between Cena and the Jedi master who met his end in the film. As is typical with Cena’s posts, he did not include any text or context.
The image showcases Kenobi during his famous duel with Darth Vader. Interestingly, Kenobi later returns in the “Star Wars” franchise as a Force-empowered ghost, assisting the young Jedi-in-training, Luke Skywalker, on his journey to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi Knight.
Whether or not Cena’s post suggests a potential return as a mentor remains to be seen. However, Cena has confirmed that he has signed with WWE for the next five years in a non-wrestling capacity. He will continue to serve as an ambassador for WWE.
