WWE legend Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently took to his Twitter and revealed that Harvey Wippleman, who's real name is Bruno Lauer, was the person responsible for coining the “SmackDown” name, and that he is also responsible for the term making it to Webster’s dictionary.
The official Twitter account of WWE on FOX posted a vintage photo of SmackDown's logo and asked fans: “Who is the first @WWE Superstar you think of when you see this logo?,” to which The Rock gave credit to Harvey Wippleman.
The Rock wrote, "Well clearly the dude who coined the name Smackdown in the first place and eventually, made it so famous it’s now in the Webster’s dictionary…and his name is Downtown Bruno"
Harvey Wippleman was hired by the WWE in 1991 and still works with the company in a backstage role.
