WWE Notes: First Crown Jewel Match Announced, Lesnar-Heyman Reunite, more

Last night WWE held Wrestlepalooza in Indianapolis in an event that not only kicked off the company's partnership with ESPN, but one that WWE is hoping becomes a top-five premium live event moving forward. Several noteworthy developments came out of the show as well as the post-show and below are are some highlights:

  • WWE aired a different version of their "Then. Now. Forever. Together" video opening. The new video still features present and past stars and is voiced over by Triple H. You can watch it here.
  • Pat McAfee, local to Indianapolis, made his return to WWE and joined the commentating booth with Michael Cole and Wade Barrett. McAfee has been absent from WWE TV since June and it's not clear when or if he will be back full-time with WWE.
  • After a brief interaction on Friday's WWE Smackdown, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman reunited at Wrestlepalooza, with Heyman showing up at ringside for Lesnar's match and introducing him to the audience like old times. Heyman did not stick around for the match itself and it's unknown if their alliance is permanent as Heyman currently is associated with The Vision consisting of Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
  • During the Wrestlepalooza post-show, reigning WWE Undisputed champion Cody Rhodes and reigning World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins had a face-off. Later on in the show, Triple H made it official that the two will wrestle each other on October 11 at the Crown Jewel premium live event in Perth, Australia. The winner would be crowned "The Crown Jewel Champion" similar to last year. While no other matches were made official, it stands to reason that the two Women's champions would face off each other. Currently those belts are held by Tiffany Stratton and Stephanie Vaquer, who defeated IYO SKY at Wrestlepalooza to capture the Women's World title.
