Bronson Reed will face Isaiah "Swerve" Scott in our opening match of the night. We'll also see tag action, as the Grizzled Young Veterans take on Breezango. In what's sure to be a great match, the Undisputed Era's Roderick Strong will battle "the Bruiserweight" Pete Dunne! We'll have an NXT North American Championship rematch as former champ Leon Ruff gets a shot at Johnny Gargano. We'll see the return to in-ring action of the former Retribution member seeking some retribution in NXT, Mercedes Martinez. We'll get what's billed as a special look at the feud between Rhea Ripley & Raquel Gonzalez. We'll get a final build to next week's New Year's Evil special edition of NXT, and we'll also have the winners revealed for the NXT Year-End Awards>. I think they should call them the Nexties.

WWE NXT Live Results (12/30/2020) - Capitol Wrestling Center, Winter Park, FL

In Memory of Jon Huber

We get a long title card, showing the former Luke Harper and Brodie Lee's image and his date of birth & death.

Match: Bronson Reed vs Isaiah "Swerve" Scott"

We cut to the arena as Swerve makes his way out. Wade Barret, Vic Joseph and the legendary Beth Phoenix are our commentary team again this week. They comment on Swerve's new attitude and outlook as of late. Out next comes "Thicc Boi" "The Colossal" Bronson Reed, and they perfectly line up an image of him open-mouth screaming behind him and cut to him enacting it. Reed kicks the steel stairs then climbs into the ring and stomps the ring hard, with the camera man moving the camera as if it were a devastating shockwave. New things, eh? The bell rings, so here we go!
Both men lock up. The first three minutes are back and forth inaction, as Reed shows off his power by tossing Swerve around, and Swerve shows off his high-octane offense by practically running circles around Reed. Swerve locks up with Reed and attempts perhaps a suplex, but Reed counters. Swerve is sent outside the ring, and Reed follows it up with a running apron cross attack. They take it back inside. Reed beats on Swerve in the corner until he's seated and the ref counts, warning Reed back. As the ref does so, Swerve dives out of the corner to take out Reed's leg, dropping the big man to one knee. Swerve temporarily takes control, attempting two covers but never getting the two. Reed begins to fight back and catches Swerve as he charges the corner. Swerve counters Reed's kick, and attacks him twice more with running strikes in the corner. Swerve with a hard takedown of the big man and a close two. Swerve pulls up Reed's left leg, placing Reed's ankle behind Swerve's head and twisting the left knee. At one point, he stands on Reed's face with his other foot. Reed gets out of it and both men are eye to eye. Swerve with several strikes that don't phase Reed. Swerve goes off the ropes and the Colossal one catches him by the throat, teasing a chokeslam! Swerve escapes but Reed takes him down. Reed shrugs and hits a standing body drop onto the vulnerable Swerve. Reed takes control, hitting running shoulder blocks and using his impressive speed and size to dominate. Reed pulls on Swerve as he clings to the ropes and the ref warns him off. And, again, Swerve uses it as a chance to go for a cheap shot headbutt. This only angers Reed, who takes Swerve down hard. Reed ascends the turnbuckles and dives off--and pretty high for a guy of his size--and hits the Tsunami (body splash) on Swerve, picking up the pin fall!
Your Winner, Bronson Reed!

NXT Year-End Awards: Breakout Star of the Year

Nominees: Dexter Lumis, Cameron Grimes, Timothy Thatcher, Raquel Gonzalez, Santos Escobar, Ilja Dragunov, Shotzi Blackheart, Pat McAfee, Damian Priest.

Earlier Today: the Way

We hear the Breezango music but get a video from earlier, when the Way arrived. Gargano saw a black cat down the hall and freaked out about it being bad luck.

Tag Team Match: the Grizzled Young Veterans vs Breezango

We cut to the arena and Breezango are ready, and the Grizzled Young Veterans (GYV) are already in the ring. The bell rings and Tyler Breeze starts things with James Drake. Side headlock into a takedown. Drake and Breeze grapple for control on the mat. Fandango is tagged in and drops James Drake, and uses an arm bar to drop him again. Drake grapples control away from Fandango and tags in Gibson. Fandango grabs Gibson in a headlock and hits a snapmare to take him down Gibson takes control and tags in Drake as Fandango tags in Breeze. Drake snapmares Breeze and hits an elbow, then covers for a two. Again Drake uses the snapmare to take down Breeze and locks in a rear headlock. Breeze gets to his feet but Drake throws his shoulder into Breeze and tags him into the Grizzled Young Veterans corner, allowing Gibson to tag in. Breeze manages to slip free and tags in Fandango, who hits the ring hot. Fandango drops Gibson. Drake tags in and Fandango takes down both Drake and Gibson. Fandango attempts to cover Gibson but only gets two. He drapes Gibson over the top rope and tags in Breeze, and Breezango charge Gibson from opposite directions and hit big boots on both sides of his face! Gibson is sent from the ring. Drake runs over to spar with Fandango on the floor. Tyler Breeze climbs up the metal rafter-like pole behind them, maybe 10-15 feet up, and dives off onto the GYV! All four men are down as the crowd breaks into an "NXT!" chant as we go to commercial!
Back from the break and we see Fandango and Gibson fighting at ringside. Gibson works on Fandango's left leg and throws him into the barricade. Gibson takes it back inside and sends Fandango into a corner. Gibson tries to work on Fandango's leg in the corner but Fandango shoves him back. Gibson manages to cut Fandango off from his partner and both grapple for a few moments. Fandango escapes and tags in Breeze. Breeze hits the ring as quick as lightning. He flies across the ring and takes down Gibson. Drake enters the ring and eats a flying forearm from Breeze. Breeze speeds around the ring, taking down the Grizzled Young Veterans single-handedly and sending them outside, where they brawl with Fandango. Breeze again runs off the apron and wipes everyone out. Breeze and Drake head back into the ring. Breeze struggles to maintain control. Drake tags in Gibson and both men hit a double team move on Breeze, holding him long ways and spinning to drop him. Gibson covers and picks up the win!
Your Winners, the Grizzled Young Veterans!

After the Match: Ever Rise

As Gibson, whose mouth is bloody, and Drake celebrate, Ever Rise comes out with a ref and scream something about wanting to fight the GYV. The ref holds them back then finally storms off.

NXT Year-End Awards: Tag Team of the Year

Another Boa/Xia Li Promo

In this week's episode of Creepy Boa/Xia Li Vignette, we see both Boa and Xia knelt in white robes as the "Master" uses a finger to draw a black line down their foreheads and the bridges of their noses. He then holds a lantern in front of them and smoke blows in their face. We then see a new person, looks like perhaps a woman, wearing a black hooded robe. We never see their face but they head off into the light and we get a "Next Week" graphic. Guess we figure all this out next week!

Match: Mercedes Martinez vs Valentina Feroz

This is a very short squash match. Martinez showcases her power and prowess. She sends her opponent off the ropes and tosses her down. She hits a double-handed choke toss before hitting the Bull Run to pick up the win easily.
Your Winner, Mercedes Martinez!

Winner:Adam Cole for a second year in a row! We get a quick statement from one of NXT's most decorated superstars.

Match: Roderick Strong vs Pete Dunne

We start off with both men locking up as our commentary team reminds us that their rivalry goes back two years, to when Dunne & Strong were tag team partners in the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Strong starts off strong early on. The Bruiserweight counters a rear naked choke attempt and takes control. As we go to commercial, and during the break, Dunne works on wearing down Strong's knees, hitting a modified bow and arrow, knee stomps, and finally sends Strong into the corner. Dunne works Strong over in the corner, then delivers a low dropkick from the apron onto a rope-hung Strong. Dunne lives up to his Bruiserweight name as he delivers another basement dropkick to the grounded Strong. After the break, Strong starts to fight back. Big chop from Strong. Strong's sent into the corner but as Dunne runs off the ropes, Strong hits a dropkick so beautiful, even Wade Barrett says it belongs in the dictionary as the picture of a textbook dropkick. Dunne tries to fight back but Strong nails a pair of clotheslines before a big strike that sends Dunne reeling into the corner. Strong charges the corner and hits a running jumping knee strike. Dunne is stunned on the ropes. Strong does a combination, a sequence that sees him running off the ropes to clothesline and bounce off the next set of ropes, repeatedly, manhandling the former NXT UK Champion. Dunne eventually escapes to the outside. Strong runs and looks for the Wrecking Ball Dropkick but Dunne sidesteps it and as Strong lands on his feet at ringside, Dunne hits him with a big superkick. The action goes back inside and both men alternate control as the crowd chants "fight forever!" Dunne attempts a roll-up but gets a two. Dunne hits an Enziguri that rocks Strong, but Strong reflexively hits an Enziguri of his own! Dunne locks in the Triangle choke hold but Strong lives up to his surname and pulls Dunne up by the arm locked in the Triangle and Powerbombs Dunne! Both men are down! Strong rolls an arm over on Dunne but Pete Dunne kicks out. Dunne again goes for the Triangle. Strong looks to convert it into the Strong-Hold but Dunne fights it back with kicks to the gut. Dunne gets Strong's hand and snaps the digits. Dunne gets up quick and hits the Bitter End out of nowhere, picking up the win in a very good, bruising match!
Your Winner, Pete Dunne!

Bálor starts to call out O'Reilly, but the Undisputed Era music cuts him off as O'Reilly makes his way to the ring. The award--a golden ring bell on a plaque--is laying on the mat. Bálor tells O'Reilly to go ahead and take it, he doesn't need it--he's got the NXT Championship. He goes on to say that the award doesn't mean anything to him, and that he has three metal plates in his destroyed jaw as a reminder of their bout. O'Reilly says that he likes the award. It's proof that he nearly won the NXT Championship but O'Reilly says he doesn't need it. He calls it a consolation prize, a participation award. He says that he doesn't need it because he's spent fifteen years fighting his way to get here and next week, he's taking Bálor's award. Bálor says that's very nice but he's going to do everything in his power to make O'Reilly suffer. He says that the last time they wrestled, O'Reilly broke Bálor's jaw. So the next time they wrestle, Bálor is going to make O'Reilly pay. He promises to drag him all over the canvas, and he's going to make O'Reilly wish that he (expletives edited out) all over the ring! Karrion Kross & Scarlett make their way out to the top of the ramp, with Scarlett speaking a foreign language. Scarlett tells them to enjoy the next seven days, but the end is coming. Karrion tells them that doomsday is here, "tick tock!" He senses something and the camera moves to show Damian Priest standing behind him. Kross turns and asks Priest if he's got something to say. Priest says that this is how you do it like a man. They begin to brawl on the top of the ramp. Both big men alternate control. Priest sets up for a Powerbomb but Kross escapes. Kross and Priest hit Big Boots on each other and battle down the ramp to the ring side. They slam each other into the barricade and partially through the plexiglass/plastic top. Both men get to their feet and continue to brawl to the back, backstage, and back out to the side stage area. Kross slams Priest onto an equipment crate and pounds him. Both men stand up on equipment crates. Priest slugs Kross sand yells "get up, you son of a bitch!" Both men grapple and send each other through tables right beside it. The crowd loudly chants "NXT!" over and over as the cameraman spends a lot more time catching Scarlett in her skimpy outfit than the fallen competitors. These two face off in the ring next week at New Year's Evil! We go to break.

Video Promo: RvR

We get a nice video promo for the upcoming "RvR", Rhea Ripley vs Raquel Gonzalez match at New Year's Evil next week. In the video, Rhea mentions how she and Raquel were so close when they first came to the Performance Center that they even got matching "RnR" tattoos on their fingers. We see several photos of them over their friendship as we hype up next week's battle between the two powerhouses of NXT.

In the Ring Promo: Legado Del Fantasma

We cut to the ring and see our current NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Santos Escobar, backed by Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde. Santos plugs his 2020, having held the Cruiserweight title for most of the year. He says that William Regal is trying to find him an opponent. He says that they're standing strong as Legado Del Fantasma, and 2021 will be their year. He knows exactly what they're going to do and their first order of business is--
Lucha House Party make their way out! Gran Metallik and Lince Dorado are here! Lince tells Santos Escobar that they've got a question for him: does he really think he owns lucha libre? LHP say that lucha libre is for everyone. They approach the ring. Santos angrily yells in Spanish; Lince says something akin to Santos stating that lucha libre is stupid. Lince looks at Metallik and says its time to get lucha on them. They hit the ring and LHP take out all three members of Legado! A ref's brought out and we'll have an official tag match, after this break!

Tag Team Match: Legado Del Fantasma vs Lucha House Party

We're back from the break and this match is under way. Gran Metallik hits the ropes and springboard backflips onto Wilde. He grabs Wilde by the arm and slings him across the ring and out, then hits a tilt-a-whilr on Mendoza, sending him back to his corner. Lince is tagged in as is Mendoza. Mendoza takes control, keeping Dorado confined to the Legado corner. Mendoza hits several powerful running clotheslines to Dorado in the corner, then tags in Wilde who snapmares Lince and attempts to pick up the pin. Lince fights back and stuns Wilde with a punch, runs up to the top and hits a huge cross body off the top. He tags in Metallik as Wilde tags in Mendoza. Metallik with a huge superkick, followed by a reverse Sling Blade. Metallik walks the ropes and hits his patented spinning dropkick and covers for a two. Mendoza shoves Metallik into the Lucha House Party corner, and Dorado stealthily tags himself in. Mendoza focuses on Metallik, opening himself up to a rear attack by Dorado. Dorado covers for two--Wilde breaks it up. Wilde attempts to get more involved and Metallik hits a headscissors toss out of the ring! Dorado tags in Metallik. Main Event North American Championship Match: Johnny Gargano(c) vs Leon Ruff

When we cut to the ring, both our competitors are already in the ring. The Way are at ringside to support Johnny Gargano. Vic Joseph wonders if Gargano can finally break the curse, and Wade Barrett scoffs at it, claiming that he broke a curse by winning his Fantasy Football tournament. The bell rings and we start off our main event match!
Gargano and Ruff lock up as Vic Joseph points out that Gargano's never defeated Leon Ruff in singles competition. Wade Barrett calls him out on this statistic, and asks how many times they've fought--twice before tonight's match. Ruff fires up and uses a series of arm drags to toss the champion around the ring. Gargano attempts a suplex counter but Ruff hip tosses Gargano. Ruff follows Gargano into the corner and hammers away at him. Gargano escapes and leans in another corner to rest; Ruff charges in and hits a big sidekick that drops Gargano. Ruff runs up the turnbuckles, looking for a high-flying move, but Gargano hops up and runs up behind him, shoving him off! Ruff crashes down hard to the outside floor. Gargano pulls Ruff up and hits a loud chest slap. Gargano slams Ruff's head into the apron, then whips Ruff into the barricade. Gargano sends Ruff into the opposite barricade but Ruff runs up the barricade and leaps up, grabbing onto the chain-link fence above the back barricade. Ruff dives off and takes down Gargano. Ruff takes it back in the ring, and the time gives Gargano a chance to take control. Gargano sends Ruff outside and hits the suicide dive, ramming Ruff into the barricade! Gargano drops Ruff as the crowd chants "you suck!" and we go to break.
Gargano maintains control during the break, slowing the fast-paced Ruff and using wear-down moves to keep him grounded. Ruff tries to fight back with rights but Gargano drops him with a kick and wraps the left arm behind Ruff's back, hooks his foot in it and drops back, snapping the upper arm and shoulder. Gargano stands over his opponent, taking his time. Gargano pulls Ruff up and looks for the neck breaker but Ruff escapes. Gargano with a swing and a miss, and eats a jump kick from Ruff. Gargano attempts to close the distance but Ruff with another kick. Ruff starts his comeback, hitting a pair of running leaping torpedo strikes. Ruff hits his own neck breaker and looks wildly at the crowd. Ruff floats over Gargano, ducks a clothesline and catches Gargano with a German Suplex! Ruff posts up in the corner, wild-eyed and looking at the crowd. He nods his head and hits a Corkscrew Cannonball on Gargano in the corner and covers for a two!
Gargano tries to take control but Ruff drops him again. Joseph points out that they're "ping-ponging control" back and forth. Ruff runs in and takes a superkick. Gargano throws Ruff into the corner. Ruff slugs away at Gargano as Gargano sits on the top turnbuckle. Gargano shoves their bodies off and drops Ruff face-first across the turnbuckle. It looked botch and Ruff looked like his neck snapped back hard. Hope he's okay. Gargano heads to the apron and hits the One Final Beat (springboard DDT), covering to pick up the win and break his curse, just like Sasha Banks did last month!
Your Winner and STILL NXT North American Champion, Johnny Gargano!
