WWE NXT Quick Recap for 7/20/2021

Matches Tonight: Six
  • Tag Team Match: the Diamond Mine vs Bobby Fish & NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida. The Diamond Mine was represented by Tyler Rust and Fish's former Undisputed Era stablemate, Roderick Strong. Kushida & Fish won with a Hoverboard Lock submission. Strong match with an active crowd. 8:12-8:27pm EST.
  • NXT Women's Division Match: Franky Monet w/ Jessie Kamea vs Jacy Jane. Franky Monet won easily despite a minor distraction from Mandy Rose. Short match, but Jacy Jane may be one to keep an eye on in the future. 8:36-8:39pm EST.
  • Single's Match: Austin Theory vs Kyle O'Reilly. In what proved to be an absolutely incredible match that saw the potential start to an Austin Theory major push, O'Reilly barely escaped with the win after a lengthy match, picking up the win by submission. Worth watching if nothing else tonight. 8:51-9:04pm EST.
  • NXT Breakout Tournament, Round One Match: Andre Chase vs Odyssey Jones. Short match that saw little time for us to get a good luck at either man. Odyssey Jones picked up the win to advance. 9:28-9:31pm EST.
  • Single's Match: Drake Maverick vs "the Million Dollar Champion" LA Knight w/ His Butler Cameron Grimes. Very short but actually a very entertaining match that saw Maverick pick up the surprise win, thanks to a miscue from the Million Dollar Champ and his Butler. 9:39-9:41pm EST.
  • NXT Women's Championship: Raquel Gonzalez(c) w/ Dakota Kai vs Xia Li. At the end of the match, Xia Li was apparently injured when the champion connected a bit too accurately with a springboard elbow shot to the ribs. After medical officials checked on Li, she was given the clear to finish the match--and Gonzalez did the right thing by hitting her Chingona Bomb and immediately covering to end the match. 9:53-10:04pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Middle Management Issues: General Manager William Regal and Special Enforcer Samoa Joe had a heated argument to begin our program, with Regal arguing semantics to justify Kross' attack on Joe last week. Joe promised that someone was going to sleep tonight (think he meant me, I'm hella tired).
  • Feuding Factions: Events have been put in motion as Legado Del Fantasma have begun their feud in full-force with Hit Row..
  • Announcements: SyFy will host NXT for the next two weeks due to the Olympics.
  • Matches Announced for Next Week: Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan vs Timothy Thatcher & Tommaso Ciampa,
  • Krossing Management: Our show ended with Samoa Joe in the ring, attempting to call out NXT Champion Karrion Kross, only to discover Kross had previously ambushed and assaulted GM William Regal. Joe rushed to the outside but Kross was long-gone.
