WWE NXT Quick Recap for August 10, 2021

Matches Tonight: Six
  • Singles Match: Dakota Kai vs Sarray. Kai filled in for Ember Moon, who was billed originally but not medically cleared to compete. GREAT match, worth watching. Kai picked up the win. 8:05-8:18pm EST.
  • Singles Match: "the Million Dollar Champion" LA Knight with "the Butler" Cameron Grimes vs Chase. LA Knight won in an absolute squash. 8:41-8:42pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Gigi Dolin w/ Jacy Jayne vs Amari Miller. Gigi won in a short, but worth-watching match. It's been noted that they are in a faction with Mandy Rose, for what it's worth. 8:53-8:55pm EST.
  • NXT Breakout Tournament: Odyssey Jones vs Trey Baxter. Short match that saw Odyssey Jones win. He'll advance to the finals, with the winner of the tournament getting an NXT title shot of their choice. Solid match that showcased Jones dominance and power, but also let Baxter's agility and high-flying style shine briefly. 9:19-9:22pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Boa w/ Tian Sha (Mei Ying) vs Drake Maverick. Short match that saw Boa win after Mei Ying spit a mist into Maverick's face behind the ref's back. 9:32-9:34pm EST.
  • Singles Main Event Match: Pete Dunne vs Ilja Dragunov. Yet another great match that saw Dunne win after NXT UK Champion WALTER caused a distraction. 9:50-10:07pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Dexter Lumis & Indi Hartwell's First Date: Several silly, somewhat humorous video segments throughout the broadcast portrayed Lumis & Indi on their date, with Gargano & LeRae as the over-protective parents.
  • TakeOver 36 Match Added: the Million Dollar Champion LA Knight will defend his title against Cameron Grimes. If Knight wins, Ted DiBiase must become Knight's new butler.
  • O'Reilly/Cole III Hype: GM Regal had Cole and O'Reilly join him in the ring, surrounded by security. O'Reilly/Cole III will be a 2 out of 3 falls match. The first match's special stipulation is Pin Fall/Submission (chosen by O'Reilly)--and later corrected in the program and listed as a Traditional Match, the second match's special stipulation is Street Fight (chosen by Cole), and the third match--if required--will be a steel cage match (picked by GM William Regal.)
  • Championship Matches Next Week: MSK will defend their tag titles against Imperium, and Kushida will defend his Cruiserweight title against the shockingly still-employed Roderick Strong.
  • Looking Down the Kross: A great video package hyping the upcoming NXT Championship bout between two-time champion Karrion Kross and the first ever two-time champion, Samoa Joe. Very comprehensive and worth YouTubing.
