WWE NXT Quick Recap for August 3rd, 2021

Matches Tonight: Six
  • Tag Match: Hit Row vs Legado Del Fantasma. Hit Row won via DQ when Escobar interfered with a steel chair. 8:05-8:17pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Ridge Holland w/ Dunne & Lorcan vs. Ikemen Jero. Squash match that saw Holland destroy Jero to a huge negative crowd reaction. 8:26-8:29pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Bobby Fish vs Roderick Strong w/ the Diamond Mine. Highly technical match that saw Strong win after a distraction. 8:39-8:52pm EST.
  • Tag Match: the Grizzled Young Veterans vs the Million Dollar Champion LA Knight & Butler Cameron Grimes. Mid-match, Knight hopped off the apron, refusing to take a tag from Grimes. Grimes did his best to fight off both Veterans, putting on an impressive display in a losing effort. Afterwards, the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase came out to comfort Grimes and encourage him to find a way out of the situation (as butler to Knight). 9:00-9:06pm EST.
  • NXT Breakout Tournament: Joe Gacy vs Trey Baxter. Baxter dominated the majority of the match, but Baxter rallied at the end to pick up the win. Very impressive display of agility from Baxter, he's one to keep an eye on. He will advance to face Odyssey Jones in the semi-finals. 9:26-9:31pm EST.
  • Love Her or Leave Her Main Event Match: Johnny Gargano w/ The Way vs Dexter Lumis. The special stipulation of this match was that if Lumis won, he and Hartwell could be together. A solid main event that saw Johnny Gargano pick up the win. 9:52-10:06pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Next Week on NXT on USA Network: Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly will come face-to-face after KOR's attack last week. Ember Moon will be in action, and Ilja Dragunov will appear next week on NXT here in the States.
  • Security: GM Regal assigned a security detail to Joe, to ensure he makes it to his match at TakeOver 36 against Karrion Kross.
  • NXT Breakout Tournament, Semi-Finals Matches: Trey Baxter vs Odyssey Jones, Carmelo Hayes vs Duke Hudson.
  • Walter/Dragunov II: One of the best parts of tonight's program was the video promo for this big fight, airing around roughly 9:40pm EST. Very, very well done and hyped the match so much that even I--a non-NXT UK viewer--want to see this match. YouTube it, it's good.
  • Love Always Wins: Yeah, I typed that. Despite losing the match against Gargano, Lumis and Hartwell joyfully united at the end of our program--defying the stipulation--much to the adoration of the crowd, Beth Phoenix, and everyone world 'round.
