WWE Royal Rumble Notes: Drew McIntyre's Return, Stars Backstage, Changes to Rumble Match

-- Below are news & notes from last night's WWE Royal Rumble, credit to pwinsider.com:

  • WWE tried their best to hide Drew McIntyre's return to WWE and had him arrive to the venue very late. Because the stadium was so massive, there were some people in the company who were legitimately kept in the dark about his involvement and arrival and only saw him in the Gorilla position shortly before he made his entrance into the men's Royal Rumble.
  • Kofi Kingston's elimination last night was not scripted as he was meant to keep his feet off the ground and remain in the Royal Rumble. However, cameras caught both his feet touch the mat, which the referees also saw, and as per instructions, everyone is to call it as it happens and Kingston was eliminated.
  • The men's Royal Rumble match, as reported yesterday, was constantly undergoing changes ahead of the PPV as Vince McMahon was involved hands-on and was modifying everything from who would be first in the match, to the finish and everything in between. The match reportedly changed "20 times" during the day and some points were even being changed while the Rumble was already underway.
  • Xavier Woods, Kurt Angle and the Undertaker were all backstage. Angle filmed content for the WWE Network and Taker was there to support his wife, Michelle McCool, who participated in the women's match.
