After the reaction to Peter Rosenberg's WWE 24/7 Championship, the Kickoff Show panel sends the broadcast back to ringside where the two-man commentary team of Michael Cole and Corey Graves set up the video package for our next match of the evening.
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens (Last Man Standing Universal Title)
On that note, the video package for the Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Universal Championship between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens airs.
Our fourth and final championship match of the evening here at the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble PPV is up next. On that note, we return inside the ThunderDome where the entrance music of the challenger begins playing.
With that said, Kevin Owens makes his way down to the ring. After him, the familiar sounds of the theme music of "The Head of the Table" plays as "The Tribal Chief" Roman Reigns makes his way down to the ring accompanied by Paul Heyman.
He steps into the ring and fireworks explode as he holds his Universal Title up proudly. He and Owens get in each other's face briefly. Reigns' music dies down and the ring announcer does the final formal pre-match official ring introductions for this WWE Universal Championship match.
Remember, this match will be contested under Last Man Standing rules. The belll sounds and we're off-and-running with our final championship bout of the evening here at the Royal Rumble PPV. The commentators point out that "#RoyalRumble" is trending worldwide right now.
Early on, we see a Superman Punch from Owens that knocks him out momentarily. Owens beats the ten count so the Last Man Standing match continues. Moments later, Owens catches Reigns out of nowhere with his Pop-Up Powerbomb in the ring. Reigns beats the count.
Now the action spills out to the floor where after some back-and-forth exchanges, Reigns catches Owens with a wicked spear. We see replays of it as the ref reaches the count of seven this time. Reigns takes the top half of the steel ring steps and blasts Owens in the face with them as he gets up.
Owens is battered up the aisle. When he returns to his feet, Reigns blasts him again with the steps. And a third time. He sets them down as the ref begins his count on Owens, who is up this time at the count of five. Reigns hoists the steps up for another shot, but Owens kicks Reigns in his exposed gut. On his way down, the steps hit Reigns. The ref begins a count on him now.
The violence meter gets turned up a few notches as Owens and Reigns take turns slamming each other into the ThunderDome screens. Reigns grabs a chair now and whacks Owens with it a few times. Now both guys climb up the ThunderDome set. They fight some and then climb up even higher to the next level of the ThunderDome. Owens catches Reigns with a super kick and then he grabs a chair.
Reigns recovers and he gets the chair from Owens. He blasts Owens with it and then slams him off some of the ThunderDome set. He goes to throw him down off the level they climbed up, but Owens blasts him with a shot before he can. Now it is Owens who is thinking about throwing Reigns off the level. Reigns catches Owens with a Superman Punch and then sends him flying off the ThunderDome set, where he sails down and crashes through a table that was set up way down below.
Somehow Owens pulls himself to his feet using the camera dolly at the count of nine. Reigns looks shocked. Owens is stumbling around the backstage area now as he passes through the curtain. The commentators question where Owens is going and what he has in mind.
Finally, he emerges through a curtain and the commentators point out a training ring that is set up in the background. Finally, out of nowhere, he is ran into by a golf cart that Reigns is driving. This lays him out again and the ref begins his count. This time his count reaches nine again and Reigns immediately blasts him with punches as he stands up. Now we see replays of Owens getting hit hard by the golf cart.
Reigns talks trash at Owens, taunting him like he would Jey Uso in their battles, bringing up Owens' family. This completely enrages Owens, who spears Reigns down and fires away with punches. He slams Reigns into a bunch of stuff and then hoists him up for a powerbomb onto an empty commentary table that doesn't break. He climbs up some of the set next to the table and leaps off, crashing onto Reigns, putting him through the commentary table.
Owens gets up at the count of seven, and Reigns is up next to beat the count as well. However, Owens is all over Reigns as soon as he is up, blasting him onto various props set up in this special section of the arena. He grabs various weaponary and set pieces laying around to blast Reigns with that as well.
Now he lays Reigns out on a craft services type of table covered in a cloth. He gets in a forklift type of machine and raises the lift super high. He exits the vehicle and climbs up it. He is on the very top of the super-raised forklift. We get a cool sky-blimp camera angle as Owens stands up there. He hits a crazy senton/flip off of it and crashes onto Reigns, putting him through the aforementioned table. The ref begins his double count as the fans in the other side of the arena with the ThunderDome screens can be heard loudly chanting "Holy Sh*t! Holy Sh*t!"
Reigns makes it to his feet just at the count of nine, but he collapses right back down. The ref runs over to check on him as replays and slow-mo replays of Owens insane flip off the raised forklift are shown. Owens stalks Reigns now as "The Tribal Chief" is crawling away from the challenger. Owens grabs him by the hair and yells at him to look at him. He slams Reigns face-first into some carts and boxes as they brawl their way back through the curtain and into the regular arena.
The commentators, including Graves, talk in disbelief as Reigns appears to be begging off as Owens stalks him. Finally Owens picks him up but Reigns breaks loose and sprints at Owens and spears him through the big screens at the top of the entrance stage. The ref begins his count. Reigns stumbles over and stares as Owens doesn't budge until the count of eight. He then rolls and lands on his feet off the stage behind the curtain. The ref tells Reigns that counts so Reigns is pissed as he heads out after him.
Owens stumbles around as the camera follows him with Reigns hot on his trail. Speaking of hot, Owens seemed to just burn his arm as he touched a hot giant light as he is struggling to return to full consciousness. Finally, Reigns stumbles around the corner and catches up with Owens. He has a pair of handcuffs in his hands. The two trade blows and Reigns gets the better of the exchange. Reigns grabs Owens and looks to handcuff him. Owens kicks him and hits him with a Stunner out of nowhere. Owens takes the handcuffs from him and cuffs Reigns so low on a part of the set, that he can't get to his feet even when he recovered. As the refs count nearly hits ten, Reigns wisely grabs the official with his free hand and pulls him into the steel part of the set, knocking him out.
Owens goes over to Reigns but Reigns ends up doing the same to him. As Owens is laid out next to him, Reigns watches on as Paul Heyman enters the picture. He appears to have the key to the handcuffs. A new official is out and he is counting both guys. Heyman helps Reigns as the ref stops his count and the commentators don't even acknowledge it. Clearly they're having trouble getting the cuffs off. They finally do and the commentators explain that because Reigns had crawled into a standing position while still cuffed, the ref stopped the count for that reason. Finally, Reigns is free'd from the cuffs several seconds later. He grabs his wrist and winces in pain as he makes his way over to Owens. He slaps a crazy choke on him and chokes the life out of him until he is completely unconscious. Reigns crawls to his feet as the ref's count reaches six. Owens is still completely out. The ref hits ten. Reigns retains after what appeared to be a botched finish.
