-- ESPN reported earlier today that Tamyra Mensah-Stock, who became the first Black woman to win an Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the Tokyo games in 2021, is retiring from amateur wrestling by signing a professional contract with WWE, as confirmed by the promotion here. Mensah-Stock has made it no secret that she was looking to jump to WWE after her gold medal but continued to with her amateur career, winning another world championship last year after previously finishing in third spot.
"I didn't want to end my career on that note. So I did another world championships, I wiped the floor with everybody, and I was like, 'Man, this is not fun anymore. I need a change.' Something in the back of my head that's just been itching at me, a dream of mine for I don't know how long. I just wanted to be in the WWE."
-- Mensah-Stock will start in WWE's developmental system, and has already reported to the Performance Center this week for training. She stated that her goal is to make the main roster within one year.
