WWE Friday Night SmackDown might not be airing on Friday nights in September.
FOX Sports announced on Thursday that FOX will be airing college football games on Friday nights starting in the fall.
While an actual official schedule has yet to be released, a report from the U.S. News is reporting that WWE could be moving SmackDown from FOX to FOX Sports 1 (FS1) if the college football games air on FOX throughout the month of September.
WWE has used the FS1 channel as their alternative when FOX has programming scheduled that preempts their weekly two-hour prime time live program, including during the Major League Baseball (MLB) playoffs and MLB World Series.
As previously reported, WWE will be permanently moving SmackDown from FOX to the USA Network starting in October of 2024, meaning the final month for the show under the current FOX deal could see the show airing on their secondary FS1 channel in September to finish out their contract.
WWE Friday Night SmackDown has aired every week on FOX since October 2019.
