There has been much talk about the supposed rivalry between WWE’s ECW pay-per-view on 6/12 in New York City and the Shane Douglas produced event on 6/10 at the ECW Arena. From what we’ve been able to gather, it seems as most of these accounts are completely false. At no point was anyone contacted to work exclusively for WWE and not the Shane Douglas show. WWE sees it as hiring independent talent to come in and work only one week for what they describe as an “authentic ECW” production. So some talent will indeed work both shows and there is no truth to WWE paying off wrestlers to not work the Douglas event.
We also have it on good word that a WWE representative, more than likely Tommy Dreamer, contacted TNA to see if they could send over Jerry Lynn, Kid Kash, Douglas, and Raven to the 6/12 pay-per-view since all four were major components of Extreme Championship Wrestling. There’s no strong possibility of TNA sending that talent over, but the fact that WWE would consider having TNA talent on their show is a sign of how serious WWE is about putting on a show respectful to the old ECW.
Joey Styles has not been a lock for the show. He has been very vocal about turning down the WWE job when it was pitched to him. It seems as he’ll join in on the 6/10 show with Douglas, however.
It was announced on NWA Wildside that Tony Mamaluke had signed on to do the 6/12 show with WWE. So look for him to hook up with Little Guido, better known in WWE as Nunzio. The two held the ECW Tag Team championship in 2000.
