Backstage News On GUNTHER vs. Brock Lesnar Potentially Happening At WWE WrestleMania 42

Dave Meltzer noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that, aside from Roman Reigns, fans can expect to see "The Beast Incarnate," Brock Lesnar, at the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble PLE. Meltzer also mentioned that we might finally witness GUNTHER facing off against Lesnar at WrestleMania 42. The company had previously planned this match for The Show of Shows on two different occasions, but it didn’t happen for various reasons.

Meltzer indicated that the first time WWE scrapped plans for a showdown between GUNTHER and Lesnar was because they believed The Ring General had not yet reached his peak. Both wrestlers had a memorable face-off during the 2023 Royal Rumble PLE. However, the creative team’s plans to run this high-profile match again at the biggest event of the year fell through once more due to Lesnar being involved in the Janel Grant lawsuit.

Meltzer added that GUNTHER is currently at the peak of his momentum, especially after forcing John Cena to tap out in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event last month. Furthermore, GUNTHER has previously expressed his desire to face Lesnar. With both superstars likely to participate in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble Match later this month, a showdown between them in Las Vegas this April cannot be ruled out.

Lesnar made his return to WWE at SummerSlam 2025 after TKO approved his comeback. He defeated John Cena at WrestlePalooza in September, marking his first match back.
