Tonight at the SmackDown! brand's Pay-Per-View event No Mercy, former WWE Champion Chris Benoit made his long awaited return to the ring.
Benoit has been out of action sine May, taking off almost 5 months to rest up and heal several nagging injuries. Benoit defeated William Regal in a match that wasn't announced until mid-way through the actual PPV. Benoit is now back on the SmackDown! roster full time.
Considering this SmackDown! brand PPV had a weak card and had to have its main event changed the week of the show due to fears that a 1-on-1 match between Booker T and Bobby Lashley wasn't a strong enough selling point for fans, one has to question the logic of WWE's decision to not promote Benoit's return in advance in hopes of generating more PPV buys.
