WWE Negotiating With Donald Trump For Possible Angle

source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

WWE officials are working on a deal in which Donald Trump would appear on their programming to feud with Vince McMahon. The Vince McMahon interview on the 1/1 RAW in which he mentioned Trump's feud with Rosie O'Donnell (and referred to her as "Yokozuna"), and then telling Rob Conway that he was fired, was scripted to be the start of the angle.

If the deal goes down, the angle would be something along the lines of a McMahon vs. Trump "Battle of the Billionaires" thing. They would be building to something, and it would likely go down at the 1/28 Royal Rumble in San Antonio. McMahon would be in the corner of a wrestler and Trump would be managing a wrestler as well.

Surprisingly, the Trump deal was actually something that WWE was asked to do as opposed to something they sought out. NBC Universal came to WWE in November to broker a deal for Trump to be involved in a WWE angle leading to a big match. The angle and the match had to come at the same time as the next season of "The Apprentice," which starts later this month. NBC felt because the last season saw ratings drop, they were looking for some publicity stunts to "heat up" Trump. Trump's feud with O'Donnell was the first thing they came up with. The decision to respond to O'Donnell mocking him on "The View" with a big promo by Trump at his desk in which he calls her a loser and other various insults was a planned publicity stunt by NBC.

The McMahon vs. Trump program is scheduled to be promoted heavily by NBC. The match as described is not final because both NBC and WWE have to completely green light the direction of the angle. The entire scenerio would have to be scripted and agreed to by all parties ahead of time. However, McMahon going on television to start the angle indicates that a deal will likely be reached. The angle is scheduled to conclude at the Royal Rumble, or on a RAW broadcast shortly thereafter.
