Backstage News On AJ Styles Declining Several AEW Offers Over The Years

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AJ Styles has consistently remained loyal to WWE throughout multiple contract periods. He has repeatedly declined offers from AEW, even with the opportunity to face top competitors like Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, and MJF.

Meltzer reported that Styles' commitment to WWE dates back to 2019, when AEW was still establishing itself. At that time, Styles was being utilized effectively in WWE and earning a substantial income. Even as AEW grew and stabilized under Tony Khan's leadership, Styles continued to show no interest in making the switch. Meltzer noted that Styles had several chances to join AEW but turned them down each time.

Recent discussions about Styles potentially joining AEW intensified after his high-profile loss to GUNTHER at the 2026 Royal Rumble PLE in Saudi Arabia. However, Meltzer emphasized that definitive retirements in wrestling are uncommon, even when they seem final on-screen. Styles addressed the speculation during a conversation with Stephanie McMahon after the event, leaving the door open for a return to wrestling in the future by stating, "Never say never."

Styles has also filed trademarks for "Phenomenal AJ Styles" and "P1," which many see as a standard move for brand protection rather than a sign of an impending departure. He remains one of WWE's most decorated performers, having held multiple world championships throughout his career. While fans continue to dream about crossover matches elsewhere, Styles' focus remains on WWE, with no confirmed plans beyond that.
