Following his halftime performance at Super Bowl LX, rap music icon Bad Bunny generated significant buzz and became a top trending topic across various industries around the world. One might expect that WWE would be eager to bring him back, and Bryan Alvarez mentioned on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live that Bunny would return sooner rather than later.
However, Dave Meltzer noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE might not be in a hurry to bring Bunny back, especially since U.S. President Donald Trump publicly criticized his halftime performance. Meltzer also pointed out that conservative organization Turning Point USA held a counter-show featuring Kid Rock, which made Bunny's performance a political flashpoint.
U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego, a Democrat and the first Latino Senator from Arizona, even suggested that Bunny should sign with AEW, where fans have been chanting anti-ICE slogans directed at Brody King. In contrast, Jake Paul initially tweeted that Bunny was a "fake" American but later clarified that he wasn't referring to Bunny's ethnicity but rather his ideology. After that, he attempted to downplay his comments by stating that he loves Bad Bunny. Logan Paul, who is associated with WWE, publicly disagreed with his brother, and Triple H sent well wishes to Bunny on Twitter (X) before the performance.
Meltzer added that the WWE audience would likely not have an issue with Bunny, but they are cautious about antagonizing Trump while he is focused on Bunny. Given Bunny's rising stardom, it is expected to outlast the current political debate. If Jake Paul realized, albeit too late, that criticizing Bunny was a misstep with his fan base, WWE should take note as well.
Triple H is on the presidential council for physical fitness, and Linda McMahon is the Secretary of Education, meaning WWE has close ties to the Trump administration, though they have tried to downplay this connection in their programming. One could argue that Logan Paul is just as divisive among fans as Bunny, yet WWE continues to support him. Paul has previously stated that a match between him and Bunny would be the biggest of all time, and only time will tell if WWE plans to book that match for WrestleMania 42.
