As previously reported, pro wrestling legend and AEW star Chris Jericho recently liked a social media post indicating that his contract with the company will expire this December, and that he is open to returning to WWE shortly thereafter.
Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that there has been considerable speculation regarding Jericho's status with WWE, especially with his AEW contract set to end at the end of the year. Meltzer also noted that people backstage are speculating about a potential return for Jericho at the Royal Rumble, but no one has confirmed or officially commented on this possibility.
The report does not specify when exactly Jericho's AEW deal expires or whether he sincerely intends to return to WWE. However, it was reported in October 2022 that Jericho signed a new multi-year deal with AEW, ensuring his presence with the company until December 2025.
Jericho has been a foundational member of AEW since its launch in 2019 and became the first-ever AEW World Champion. He has not appeared on television since losing the ROH World Championship to Bandido last April.
