According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk played a key role in bringing Danhausen into the company after his departure from All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Danhausen had previously expressed support for Punk during their time in AEW, which may have strengthened their connection behind the scenes.
Meltzer noted that the reactions backstage have been mixed. During his debut at Elimination Chamber, Danhausen reportedly received boos, prompting WWE to feature him in a backstage promo rather than in-ring debut on RAW to avoid a negative response. Despite this, WWE has been surprised by how well Danhausen's merchandise is selling.
Before joining WWE, Danhausen had a limited run in AEW due to injuries and shifting creative priorities. While he maintained a dedicated fan base, he struggled to secure consistent television opportunities. AEW President and CEO Tony Khan reportedly stopped utilizing him for several reasons but briefly extended his contract to prevent him from leaving.
