Backstage News On EVIL’s Internal WWE Status Amid Reported Signing

As previously reported, former IWGP Heavyweight Champion EVIL is believed to have signed a contract with WWE. While WWE has yet to officially confirm his acquisition, PWInsider.com reported last week that multiple sources in Japan have verified that EVIL has indeed signed a deal with the company. The report also mentioned that he will be working under a new ring name in WWE.

According to a recent update from PWInsider.com, EVIL has not yet been officially assigned to a WWE brand. Currently, he is listed internally on the “miscellaneous” roster, which includes legends and injured wrestlers.

EVIL concluded his time with NJPW in January 2026. His final match with the promotion occurred at the Road to the New Beginning event on January 20. Following his departure from NJPW, reports indicate that he desires to begin his WWE career in NXT. This move is seen as beneficial for him to develop his character and adapt to WWE’s style. It will be interesting to see if this plan comes to fruition.
