Backstage News On How The WWE Intercontinental Title Ladder Match At WrestleMania 42 Came About

As previously reported, WWE Intercontinental Champion Penta is set to defend his title in a Ladder Match against multiple contenders at WrestleMania 42 later this month. Je’Von Evans, Rusev, JD McDonagh, and Dragon Lee all won qualifying matches to secure their spots in the matchup last week on WWE Main Event, making it a 5-Way Match.

According to Fightful Select, the plans for the Ladder Match were finalized just last week. The report also mentioned that several participants found out very last-minute, ahead of Monday Night RAW—where the qualifying matches were taped—that they would be involved in those matches. On Main Event, Evans defeated Rayo Americano, Rusev overcame Otis, JD McDonagh won against Akira Tozawa, and Dragon Lee triumphed over Grayson Waller.

Regardless, Penta is facing the biggest challenge of his WWE career with his title on the line at WrestleMania 42 in this Five-Way Ladder Match. The premium live event will take place on Saturday, April 18th, and Sunday, April 19th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will air live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
