As previously reported, AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla signed a new deal with the company last month. This new contract comes less than a year after her initial signing and well ahead of her original deal, which was set to expire in mid-2027.
According to Fightful Select, AEW has been very pleased with Thekla’s performance since her arrival and sought to secure her on a long-term deal, even though her previous contract still had over a year remaining. The report also noted that Thekla utilized representation to negotiate this new contract, resulting in a significant raise in her pay.
Additionally, Thekla’s representatives anticipated that WWE would be interested in her if she reached free agency. However, the new deal was finalized early enough that those discussions never took place.
Thekla won the AEW Women’s World Championship from Kris Statlander on the February 11th episode of Dynamite and has held the title for 53 days. She is set to defend her championship against Jamie Hayter at AEW Dynasty next Sunday, April 12th, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, which will air live on pay-per-view.
