Backstage News On Original Plans For Will Ospreay’s AEW Return

As previously reported, AEW star Will Ospreay made a surprise return at Revolution this past Sunday when he confronted AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley of the Death Riders following Moxley's victory over Konosuke Takeshita from the Don Callis Family.

During this past Wednesday's episode of Dynamite, Ospreay followed up with a match against Blake Christian, which turned out to be somewhat of a squash; however, Christian managed to execute a few good moves before being defeated.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the surprise appearance at Revolution was not part of the original plan for Ospreay's return. Initially, there was a plan to announce his return alongside the on-sale time for All In at Wembley Stadium in the U.K.

Despite the change in plans, Ospreay went ahead and promoted the on-sale tickets while also starting a storyline with the Death Riders. He was cleared to return to the ring on February 25th after undergoing double-fusion neck surgery, and AEW successfully kept this information under wraps to make his pay-per-view return a significant surprise. On Wednesday night, Bryan Danielson mentioned on commentary that Ospreay's recovery was faster than his own from a similar surgery.
