Backstage News On Social Media Reportedly Impacting WWE Creative Decisions

For a long time, WWE has asserted that it doesn’t pay attention to what wrestling fans say on social media, claiming that all creative decisions are made internally. However, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that nearly every non-injury-related change since Drew McIntyre’s victory for the Undisputed WWE Championship has been influenced by fan complaints about the product being too predictable.

Meltzer also mentioned that, given the vocal nature of fans regarding their likes and dislikes on social media, one source within WWE acknowledged that it’s difficult to play the role of a "babyface booker" in today’s environment. This source explained that with so many differing opinions, bookers need to distinguish between genuine criticism and those who simply criticize everything. They added that there would be fewer shifts in creative direction and less second-guessing if WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque stopped trying to be a “sage architect.”

This comes after Triple H did not appear in front of the crowd during the WWE Elimination Chamber post-show last weekend, opting instead for a backstage interview with Jackie Redmond. According to Meltzer, this decision was influenced by fans booing him during his last two post-show appearances. Meltzer noted that this was another step taken by WWE to move away from post-PLE press conferences, following Brock Lesnar’s return at SummerSlam last August.
