Recently, TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro attracted attention with his comments during a presentation to a class at the University of Alabama, stating that TKO has complete control over WWE's creative direction.
In the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp addressed a fan's question about TKO's influence over WWE and its Chief Creative Officer, Paul "Triple H" Levesque. Sapp confirmed that TKO has full creative control over WWE "if they want to," while Triple H manages the day-to-day and week-to-week creative processes. He noted that if TKO has specific creative desires, they will ensure those are implemented, particularly around the time of WrestleMania.
Sapp also pointed out that many unexpected creative developments in WWE stem from TKO's directives, though Triple H continues to lead the creative team. He emphasized that Triple H aims to be seen as an essential figure within WWE, which is why he maintains a strong presence on programming.
There was previously a report indicating that TKO CEO Ari Emanuel was behind the decision to reveal Pat McAfee as Randy Orton’s mystery caller ahead of WrestleMania 42. However, McAfee later chose not to continue with the storyline due to significant backlash and criticism. There were also rumors suggesting that Cody Rhodes was set to team up with music star Jelly Roll to take on Randy Orton and McAfee at WrestleMania.
Cody Rhodes’ recent promos have alluded to “outside forces” impacting the WWE product. Following McAfee's reveal as the mystery caller, Rhodes made a point to say that McAfee and everyone representing him could “kiss his a**,” adding, “Oh no, is that too far? What are you going to do, fire me? It sure worked out for you last time.” These remarks seem to reference Emanuel’s role as McAfee's agent.
