Backstage News on Why WWE Changed Babatunde's Name to Dabba-Kato

-- WWE’s Raw Underground star, Dabba-Kato, previously appeared in NXT under the name Babatunde but when he made the move to Raw, his name was completely changed. The reason for this name change was primarily a business decision as the wrestler’s real name is Babatunde Aiyegbusi, which would make it difficult for WWE to enforce any trademark claims should he decide to leave the promotion in the future. WWE changing his name to Dabba-Kato allows the company to fully trademark that name, preventing him from using that for any other wrestling promotion or initiative. This is not uncommon for WWE as they very rarely push wrestlers with their real name and instead choose to market them under a made up name or character.

-- Vince McMahon also has his own reasons for often changing names according to Wrestling Observer Radio and in the past, Rusev debuted as “Alexander Rusev” and Cesaro as “Antonio Cesaro” but Vince didn’t want fans chanting “Alex” or “Tony”, respectively.
