News on WWE Releasing Producers; Backstage Reaction of Many Said to be Bitter

-- As reported recently, WWE has recently let go a number of producers that were previously furloughed and given the indication that they would be brought back once business returned to normal. However, it soon became apparent that the live events business is not going to go back to the way it was pre-pandemic as house shows were already losing money and with social distancing protocols in effect, they would lose even more money. The travel and physical pounding of competing four or five times per week was also leading to a high risk of injuries for the superstars with the company not gaining anything in terms of revenue.

-- The general consensus seems to be that WWE is letting go many of the more tenured, older producers while trying to retain the younger ones. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, many who were let go were said to be extremely bitter at being strung along and given hope that they would be brought back, especially in light of record profits in the second quarter as well as the high profile hiring of new President Nick Khan. Most of the bitterness stems from the fact that the company line to those furloughed was that it was the last thing they wanted to do and something that was forced upon them due to the economic uncertainty of the pandemic, while clearly the figures show otherwise.
