Backstage News On WWE Reportedly Having Some Interest In David Finlay

As previously reported, top NJPW star David Finlay is exploring his options outside of the company as his contract is set to expire soon. A couple of weeks ago, it was mentioned that Finlay is interested in spending more time in the U.S. this year.

According to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, Finlay has been discussed as a potential talent by WWE; however, there have been no official talks between the two parties. It was noted that Finlay still has some obligations to NJPW, and once those are resolved, WWE is interested in bringing him in, possibly for the NXT brand. Nonetheless, NJPW is also keen on keeping Finlay, who has been part of the company since 2015.

Finlay is a two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, a former IWGP Tag Team Champion, and a former NEVER Openweight Champion. He won the 2025 New Japan Cup. Recently, Finlay competed at both NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 and NJPW New Year Dash!!! over the past weekend, but he ended up on the losing side in multi-person tag matches on both shows, with United Empire securing victories over BULLET CLUB War Dogs.
